The Rants and Ramblings of a Muay Thai Fan

Old Memories

October 22nd, 2008 · 12 Comments

I came across this on The Fight Geek a while back, if you guys haven’t visited yet, you should bookmark it, he’s got some really interesting gems posted.  I love traveling and experiencing other cultures…

I’d love to be a host on a travel show, wandering the streets eating random shit.  I saw this clip and thought it’s about the furthest thing you could get to a 24-hour fitness. I find this concept of a gym so foreign and intriguing.  I see all the clips online for the “300″ workout… shit this is the original “300″ workout.  Old school. It’s great to see that they’re keeping their traditions alive. [Read more →]

Diesel Noi Clinch Clinic

October 21st, 2008 · 16 Comments

Well file this under the vintage column…I was on K-1 Fans the other day and I came across this old footage of Dieselnoi.  I wasn’t able to find out much about this clip.

It’s one of those rare clips of Diesel Noi fighting a non-Thai.  His opponent is John Mancayo.  I’m not sure where or when this fight took place.  All I do know is this there is about to be some serious knee action from Diesel Noi.   I’m intrigued by Diesel Noi’s Ram Muay, have any of you guys seen a clip of his full Ram Muay?

8 limbs not 6

October 20th, 2008 · 17 Comments

I came across a vid this past weekend of a friend who runs Sit-Kangmonkorn out of Pittsburgh.  Stephen aka Pisand is a student of Matee Jedeepitak. Matee was the subject of my first blog post.

Most of you who are from Europe may not realize but in the US, most states don’t allow full Muay Thai rules aka elbows.  It’s up to the States governing athletic commission to decide whether elbows can be used. [Read more →]

Muay Connect Four

October 17th, 2008 · 18 Comments

My friend Matt put this up… he’s in the vid, the tall guy in the video.  Matt’s got crazy reach, he can pretty much kick you from about 7′ away.

I saw this and I thought it was pretty awesome.  Although embarrassingly I have to admit I don’t know how to play chess.  I’m not sure how that happened, but never got around to learning how to play.

Maybe I’ll start some league for Muay Thai and Beer Pong or Muay Thai/Connect Four! Might be more my speed.  The gym in the vid is in the bay area I think but I don’t recognize it … anyone know where this is?  Maybe it’s in So Cal.

Travel Advisory for Nak Muays

October 16th, 2008 · 10 Comments

I’ve made brief mention of this in the past, but things have kicked off in a bad way.  If you’ve been anywhere near a paper or the tv, you would have seen that a few protesters were killed last Tuesday.

I spoke with my buddy who’s a newscaster and he says there is a lot of shit going down that isn’t being “covered” in the news.  I normally stick to Muay Thai… but I’m writing this because I know a lot of you are planning on heading out to Thailand.

My friends advice is to steer well clear of the protest area (Govt. House, parliament etc.)  And most importantly stay out of large crowds.  He advises that if you see a large crowd forming get into a cab and get out of there.  Seriously it isn’t worth it.

A lot of the action is happening from an area not too far from Rajadomnern Stadium.  Please use your judgement.

Be safe….
