The Rants and Ramblings of a Muay Thai Fan

Easy Listening Thai

So I made mention in my last post about the difference in entrance music on this side of the pond.  Our friend blackwidow, sent me a clip from the fights this past weekend in the bay area.

There is a camp in the Bay Area which has always used non-standard ram muay music.  It’s always bothered me a bit… part of me of me is glad that their fighters are doing the ram muay, but the “modern ram muay music” is just too much for me…  (god damn I’m a curmudgeon) I guess I’d like to understand why they’ve chosen to use other music? Muay Thai Legends Fight Results

August 18th, 2008 · 9 Comments

Fight results this past weekend… So first things first, I should always bring my small video camera as a back up.  I bought a new camera, which was promptly spotted as I went through security.  So no footage… they’ll have official footage of the event at shoutfight.com

Anyway it was my first fight event in the UK, it was a pretty good turn out.  I’d have to say one of the aspects that was notably different to fights in the states was the fighters entrance music.  In the States the ring music is this projection of toughness.  I think MMA has done a lot to perpetuate this… [Read more →]

Weekend Muay Thai Action

August 15th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Seems like a lot going down this weekend for Muay Thai fans.  For those of us in UK there is the Muay Thai Legends card this Saturday at the Fairfield Halls in stunning Croydon.  I hope to get some footage, if you bump into me say hello.

The card includes:

Steven Wakeling (England) vs Diesellek Runruangyon (Thailand)
Kieran Keddle (England) vs Somluck Khamsing (Thailand
James France (England) vs Kaoponglek (Thailand)
Bernise Alldis (England) vs Chajmaa Bellekhal (Holland)

I’m really looking forward to seeing Somluck fight… I’m curious if he trained at all for this.  I know he’s got skills but he won’t be able to rely on that alone.  I think the Wakeling vs. Diesel Lek bout is going to be close.  Wakeling will probably be the aggressor in this bout.

Self Defense without Self Respect

August 14th, 2008 · 13 Comments

Oh man… classic stuff.  Living in London can be dangerous, especially around my neighbourhood.  If you guys don’t hear from me in a couple of days, it’s either because I’ve locked myself away to master these awesome moves.

If you don’t hear from me for a couple of weeks, it’s because I spit my drink in some dudes face and was stabbed.  Oh man this is classic…  I’m surprised that don’t have monkey steals the peaches.  That’s my go to move.

Wuthidej vs. Sanchai Take II

August 13th, 2008 · 8 Comments

With MyMuayThai we’ve got a wide range of fights.  I felt bad leaving you guys with such a crap fight yesterday; I’m going to try to make it up to you.

I think you’ll all agree that this fight will more then make up for all the crap fights this year.  I’d have to say this is the most technical fight I’ve seen probably in the last 5 years. For those of you who can’t view the fight you can’t access veoh.  You can watch DL it here. [Read more →]

Why K1 GP is a Joke

August 12th, 2008 · 14 Comments

Why do they do this?  Why do they think this is going to be good for the sport?  Thanks to Gusnark for taking the time to hunt these clips down for us.

What I find amazing is that Domagoj is supposed to be 41-6?.  I know Badr is a P-I-M-P but come on…
