This is pretty old footage, but it’s the first I’ve seen of it. The fight took place in May of ‘07, a couple of months after he beat the shit out of Rafik Bakkouri. Watching this fight I can’t help but think this is a new form of tourism? You get dudes who pay big money to go on canned hunts so they can bag some big game, maybe this is the latest craze… get your ass beat by a Muay Thai champion.
This is only the 2nd round, but you get the idea. Big thanks to Kalgoran for sharing.
Seriously though how heavy is this guy? I heard Rafik paid something like 100,000 baht or about ($3,300) for the privilege of taking one of Yodsanklais knee in his gut. [Read more →]
Some of you may remember that during my interview with Zig Zach he mentioned his next fight was going to be in Malaysia. Those fights were last week and I haven’t been able to get my hands on any clips.
In addition to Zach, Zidov Akuma, and Sean Wright were also on the bill. This event was also used as a qualifier for season 2 of the Contender Asia. You can check out what went down on Galvin Tan’s Blog, he’s posted the results and some nice pics of the action. [Read more →]
This is a little over a week old now… but Thongchai Tor. Silachai was recently arrested for selling methamphetamine (Yaa Bah) to an under cover cop. The report from the Bangkok Post said he had possession of 85 Pills, but Rob Cox from Muay Thai Focus said the number was more like 5 and it was the supplier who had the 85 Pills. Either way he’s going away for a while… The police had been building their case for nearly a year, before his arrest. Silachai said he wasn’t afraid of hurting is name as he takes full responsibility for his actions. He was however worried about hurting the reputation of his camp.
Thongchai with Hellfighter from K-1 Fans
For those of you who don’t know Thongchai 36 is a Muay Thai legend. The bantamweight fighter was the recipient of the 2001 sports writer of Thailand fighter of the year award. Throughout his fight career he amassed 5 Lumpini, Rajadomnern and WMTC titles. Thongchai was known for his explosive power, an example of this is during his fight with Teelek Por. Samranchai where he broke Teelek’s thigh bone with a monstrous leg kick. [Read more →]
This a good week for fight fans… I just got through watching Kraus and Zambidis, yawn… I used to get a lot more satisfaction out of K-1. Maybe I’m becoming a curmudgeon, or a fight snob. I just prefer to watch Muay Thai. I think most of you agree with me.
Because we’ve had so much K-1 in the past day, I need to balance our diets with some quality Muay Thai. You guys remember a while back I did a post on Wuthidej Lookprhabat. (Woo tee date)He’s the nak muay who won the coveted sports writers fighter of the year award. We’ll here he is squaring about against Sanchai Sor. Kingstar. [Read more →]
