I was looking through the latest issue of Mens Health and there was a blurb on a study done by Brunel University in the UK on the effects of Music on Athletic performance. They took 36 fit men and had them run 400 meter time trials. They found that people would synchronize their pace with higher tempo music, thus improving anaerobic performance. They also had a list of athletes and their precompetition play-list. Lance Armstrong (”Times like These” Foo fighters, “Touch The Sky” Kanye West etc.) Tom Brady ( “Get By” Talib Kweli, “The Light” Common etc.)
On my running mix I’ve got some Party Ben, Rage Against The Machine, Adam Freeland and Dead Prez.
Two Questions: What do you listen to when your training/running and What song would you or do you use for your ring walk?

My running music is usually muay thai round music, found it at mma-tracker. There is a longer warm up round thats about 3-4min with pretty low pace and then it starts with 3min rounds and 45sec rest. The pace gets higher and higher and when you’re at the fifth round the rounds feel like 7min or so. This has improved my cardio big time. Haven’t tried this for bag work yet. I usualy work the bag to heavy metal like Iced Earth or similar. During my ring walk-music would be Mötley Crüe - Kickstart my heart, old metal just pumps up my heart and would get the adrenalin flooding.

My running/workout music consists of all sorts of stuff like Fort Minor, Dropkick Murphys, Thrice, Thursday, AFI and some Slipknot thrown in for good measure. I try to make my workout music songs that I am familiar with or that I know pretty well as I find this helps increase my adrenaline and therefore my pace.
For my ringwalk, I’d either use “Shipping Up to Boston” by Dropkick Murphys (I am Irish after all) or “Give it All” by Rise Against.

I don’t listen to music while I run…probably should though.
My fight music is “I Will Be Heard” by Hatebreed. I’m considering changing it though.

I don’t listen to music during the workouts; I like to listen before. Helps pump me up.

I use the muay thai round music when I am shadow boxing, it helps the riddum. I also find hip hop works better for me on the heavy bag. Running and lifting I generally listen to more hardcore rap like DMX and tons of metal like Shadows Fall, Slipknot, Slayer etc.. I have been doing the Ross Boxing stuff lately and I generally need that type of music just to get through his effin workouts. I do not do long cardio runs anymore but I used to have more mixed styles when I did. For my entrance song, the weirder the better.. Genki Sudo anyone?? I once saw Mike Swick walk out to DMX’s Party Up and thought that was kinda sweet. BTW, does anybody else hate it when fighters sing along to the songs when they walk out, ala Tito Ortiz?

I always wanted to come out to a mix of Muay Thai ram muay music mixed with some sort of beat (a la old Fairtex commercials but only cooler) but I have never found any…
I hate when fighters dance to their entrance music. Rob Kaman vs Ernesto Hoost, Kaman (one of my favorite fighters) came skanking down the aisle like he was listening to cheesy 1998 Ska.

I don’t see anythin wrong wit people singing their entrance music…..or Dancing…I actually find it rather entertaining….Like Anderson Silva in his Pride days, Genki Sudo…even Buakaw loosens up sometimes……I don’t see anythin wrong wit it…it doesn’t bother me.
