The Rants and Ramblings of a Muay Thai Fan

Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Sebastien Favre

July 15th, 2008 · 26 Comments

This is pretty old footage, but it’s the first I’ve seen of it.  The fight took place in May of ‘07, a couple of months after he beat the shit out of Rafik Bakkouri.  Watching this fight I can’t help but think this is a new form of tourism?  You get dudes who pay big money to go on canned hunts so they can bag some big game, maybe this is the latest craze… get your ass beat by a Muay Thai champion.

This is only the 2nd round, but you get the idea.  Big thanks to Kalgoran for sharing.

Seriously though how heavy is this guy?  I heard Rafik paid something like 100,000 baht or about ($3,300) for the privilege of taking one of Yodsanklais knee in his gut. I’m sure this guy had to plunk down a little more. (charge by the lbs) If any of you feel like loosing some loot, just pop down to Pattaya, throw down a side bet of 100K+ and you too can get your ass handed to you!

I don’t know much about Favre… I don’t know what his deal is but I’m not sure what he got out of it?  I know there are a lot of people out there who are looking to collect Thai scalps… yeah I was in Thailand…trained and beat a Thai.  Seriously though Yodsanklai? Isn’t that a tad ambitious?

i don’t think 100,000 baht can attract Fairtex to arrange a fight for you and Yod anymore. Maybe 100 million baht?? C’mon, Yod is now the big money maker for Fairtex now, hahaha

Honestly??!!You can pay to get battered by a thai champ? And people honestly, actually pay money to fight??!!!Iv never heard anything so insane in my life?Did Rafic honestly pay that much to fight Yod?im flabergasterd. Why not just do like anyone else and just get in a good camp and train and fight until such a time as your ready to fight a champ (and actually get paid yourself).I have never heard anything so ridiculous as, paying to fight.I know gyms in the west charge for competitions/interclubs etc at amateur levels I understand this not that I would ever dream of paying to do one. Where would have been the win in this for that guy, he either gets beat by a little Thai fella (which he did) and looks rubbish cause he’s so much bigger than him or he wins and everyone says yeah but look how big you are compared to him? This is very wierd. Sorry for the rant

lol, dude’s not going to be using his arms for a while

Raffik Challenged Yod because around that time he (raffik) was causing havoc in the French Muay Thai circuit. As a result I believe his head might have gotten a lil bigger than usual and he actually thought he was good enought to beat Yod, it just so happened that in all actuality he wasn’t.

Im sure most people who have paid to fight him did it just so they could say that they fought the champion (win or lose). The outcome for most is really irrelevant, I’m sure (or I hope) Favre didn’t actually think he was gonna beat the “Computer Wizard”…but I guess now he has braggin’ right.

    When u’re the champ…everyone wants a shot at u.
    Unfortunately not everyone deserves it.

    Hey all,

My first post! Have been checking the blog quite regularly…it’s great, very informative. Anyway, I had thought that Raffik bet the 100,000 baht that he could beat Yod. If I wanted to fight the champ I would train my ass off and work to get there. Paying is taking the short, not so smart route to getting a beating.

  • 6 tong po // Jul 15, 2008 at 9:59 pm

That was terrible. What’s the point in taking such an ass whooping? If that shit about paying to fight a champ is true, then for sure people have paid for stranger/worse things.

  • 7 nopstar // Jul 15, 2008 at 10:32 pm

SubversiveJosh is right, you basically go in an put down a side bet. If you listen to the announcer in the beginning of raffiks fight, she says that there is a 100K Baht prize for the winner.

I’m sure you can roll up to fairtex tell management you want to put down 200K side bet and see if they bite. I’m sure Yod would it’s easy money… So who’s down? We’ll get a little donation bucket going around… we’ll call it the beat down fund.

“We’ll get a little donation bucket going around… we’ll call it the beat down fund.”

If we’re able to raise enough money, who’s gonna be the brave (aka stupid) volunteer…? Anyone?

    Greetings, Another first-timer here.

“Where would have been the win in this for that guy, he either gets beat by a little Thai fella (which he did) and looks rubbish cause he’s so much bigger than him or he wins and everyone says yeah but look how big you are compared to him?”
    - Well put, manant!
Wow! I knew about Raffik vs. Yod but this was a surprise to me. Even though Raffik took a beating he’s got some skills to show. This guy looked like a heavy-bag in there. Definitely a broken arm or a rib or something.
I’ve fought in that stadium before but there’s no way I would be foolish enough to square off with someone like Yod up in there. Even if I did have 100,000 baht to throw around.

  • 10 Dreago // Jul 16, 2008 at 6:09 am

Ahaha, the beat down fund. Sounds good, I’d donate. Now who wants to take on Yod? :P

  • 11 natemuaythaimaster // Jul 16, 2008 at 7:16 am

nope since your the leader of this group I elect you buddy

  • 12 nopstar // Jul 16, 2008 at 7:26 am

    natemuaythaimaster-

That’s the worst idea I ever heard. This is how it would go down. It would probably look a lot like the Narulepol fight on the contender except way faster. Probably the first time he would kick me… I would go down. I can’t guarantee that I would go down like a man either, I would probably let out a really pathetic yelp as I went down… It wouldn’t be pretty. I also can’t guarantee that when I hit the mat there won’t be some sort of writhing and crying either.. I’m just warning you.

  • 13 I // Jul 16, 2008 at 9:01 am

LOL… that guy is such an IDIOT!!! Does anyone know where he is from?

  • 14 nimrod69 // Jul 16, 2008 at 11:00 am

Sebastian looks 10-15kg heavier then Yod.
i m curios as whther there will b weight class sorted for these “paid” fight?? what if some1 as big as bob sapp wanna pay fightin yod? wil fairtex accept ?

  • 15 LorKoteKote // Jul 16, 2008 at 11:52 am

I don’t know about (Reversed)canned hunts as far as getting a beating from a champ, but if you want to talk about regular ones just look on youtube.com. You will find millions of videos of Foreigners beating up over-the-hill, out-of-shape and “prop” Thais, fights that their attended camp “set-up” for them(Set-up jing jing). It’s really kind of pathetic and sickening. Although I will say I have alot respect to the foreigners that have the balls to step in their with real fighters, no?

  • 16 LorKoteKote // Jul 16, 2008 at 11:54 am

P.S. I think Yodsanklai wouldn’t go to hard on any of us, even the seasoned fighters. He would play with us until he eventually got bored and ended it immediately.555+

  • 17 rvafighter // Jul 16, 2008 at 4:57 pm

Paying for a fight is pretty dumb. Wouldn’t that money be much better spent, say, training at the fairtex camp with Yod and his trainers for a month or three? I bet if you threw enough money at fairtex, you could get some good training in and maybe even a few sparring sessions with Yod.

“I think Yodsanklai wouldn’t go to hard on any of us”
I think you’re wrong here, hehe. If he can knock you out, he will definitely do so. First business, then friends, remember.

    Nop,
    your post was hilarious. :)
I respect your sincerity, anyways I think you’re probably right, his kick is like taking a hard swing with a baseball bat. I remember the first fight with Buakaw vs Kraus… man, hands of Kraus were really demolished. Ouch!

  • 19 Gusnark // Jul 16, 2008 at 5:51 pm

    Btw, hello subversivejosh and KhanomRay!

  • 20 KhanomRay // Jul 16, 2008 at 6:55 pm

    Cheers Gusnark!

  • 21 SE // Jul 17, 2008 at 2:24 am

i support it. more money for thai fighters.

  • 22 ShadyEskimo // Jul 17, 2008 at 9:38 am

Yod just showed him How its Done, but who the F”#K is the opponent, Some tourist? or an Old fighter I never heard about.

  • 23 Commando // Jul 17, 2008 at 11:17 am

I’ll try and put this one to bed, ive asked yod about that side bet once before and he told me it was only 10 000Baht, not 100 000 baht, so i asked him again yesterday, he told me…..as far as he was aware Raffik didnt pay any money to fight him, fairtex thought he was a legitimate oponent (ie someone who would give yod a run out but not beat or hurt him), i mean not every yod fight is for a contentender or wbc belt. Raffik had said to him 100 000 Baht for a K.O, but Yod said he only got 10 000 Baht, I asked him if he didnt push raffik for the other 90 000 and he just smiled and said “Raffikk talks a lot but inside he was scared” hehe !! So thats twice now hes told me he only got 10 000 Baht from Raffik. I met Seb Favre at Sitjaipetch gym in Pattaya last year, he has plenty of experience but is your typical fighting farang journeyman around thailand, there is no way he would have had XXX amount of money to pay for a fight to take on Yod. Yod, narupon, phetbanjong etc all take the odd turn at filling a fairtex fight card once in a while at pattaya stadium…..

  • 24 Gusnark // Jul 17, 2008 at 6:07 pm

    Commando,
tnx for the info. You train at Pattaya?

  • 25 tabloid // Jul 18, 2008 at 7:58 pm

he took like 8 or 9 full power body shots in 20 seconds. Ouch

  • 26 new2me // Jul 19, 2008 at 4:19 pm

Wow, that must have been like shooting fish in a barrel for Yod; almost everything he threw landed.

By the looks of the opponent; he looks about 210 lbs.

I agree w/SE: more money for the fighters.

The “big game” metaphor is hilarious and spot-on Mai.
