Yodsaenklai Fairtex vs. Khalid Bourdif

We’re pretty much down to our last fight from Slamm, I think this week I’ll shift my focus briefly to the latest K1 WGP antics.

I know a lot of you have had an opportunity to meet and train with Yod.  This was my first time meeting him, and have to confirm what everyone has told me… that’s he’s just a really nice guy.

We spoke for a few minutes, and he’s just a really laid back, happy go lucky type character.  There is a childlike demeanor /quality he has.  I don’t mean to sound condescending but one would never think that he’s a fighter upon meeting him.

I was amazed how agro some of the Dutch fighters were during their ring walk.  I think the Dutch and American’s are culturally very similar in that respect.  Their ring walks were nowhere near as angry as the UFC ringwalks but aggressive nonetheless.  Lots’ of hip-hop and chest beating and scowling…

Yod in my mind typifies the Thai NakMuay.   Laid back but devastating.  Maybe that’s why he’s so chill?  He knows he the best and doesn’t really have much to prove in those respects?

As for this fight, I wouldn’t say it was his best performance… a bit anticlimactic. It appeared to me that he gassed a bit in the later rounds?  Anyway, I’m not complaining it’s always a pleasure and privilege to watch world class Nak Muay’s live.

It does seem like Yod slowed down a bit in latter rounds. The cut kick that caught Yod was pretty impressive. It’s the first time I’ve seen him got cut kicked and went down. But it’s still always fun to watch him perform–always nonstop fast-paced actions. It also seems that Dutches are doing better and better in Slamm. I think that’s the result of their long-time commitment to Muay Thai. Do you guys agree?

agreed, the dutch had a great showing this year.

also: this fight should’ve ended in 1st round tko due to unanswered unibrow strikes. yod couldn’t handle that brow.

Yep, not his best performance. Nonetheless, usually he just needs to put his left leg in a gear and the victory is his. He’s that superior.
Commentators seem to be right, Yod looked nervous. I mean Anuwat and Bovy lost and Yod should redeem Thai reputation. I’m glad he did, the opponent stood no chance.

Glad i’m not the only one that noticed those huge caterpillars on the Dutch’s face.

I thought he looked a little slow and gassed. I wonder who he’s gonna fight next. Yod is the man

I’d love to see the tale of the tape for all the dutch-thai fights. Were all the fights even fought with weight classes? Do the Dutch cut more weight than the Thais?

There is quite a bit of bias with the production, too. Just check the replays. They hardly showed any of the Thais good hits on the Dutch. Not to take away anything from the Dutch fighters. Khalid didn’t just survive, but got a lot of good shots in. It was a fight, not the usual one-sided beatdown when Yod is in the ring.

Lastly, someone should mix it up more. He didn’t bother to box in the later rounds. Where were the elbows and knees?

Not fair Khalid blatantly left that bear back on his face unshaven to draw attention from Yod. But in all seriousness… That thing is FREAKING huge. But really … it is. I think he is a strong fighter and has given Yod maybe the best fight since Samkor (which is epic by the way) Im just not ready for Yod to lose. I think the only way they will pull it is in a k1 fight so I really dont want him to get into k1.
