I was trolling the Contender Asia site the other week and I noticed they had an application for season 2. I would be amazing news if the show is doing so well that they’re looking to roll out the second season.

Its Showtime had their show being filmed in Samui, I did a post on it ages ago. Somebody recently commented that I should be covering it. I would gladly if I could find content.
I just saw on ax that our Cambodian brothers have adopted the format /licensing of De La Hoya’s show, the Next Great Champ. I think that show is currently being aired in Cambodia. It’s great that our art is getting so much positive exposure.
I think they’ll have a second season. I haven’t actually spoken to any of the fighters who participate in Season 1. We don’t really know how the show was run (behind the scenes) JWP, Zach… care to comment?
So who do you think they should have on season 2? Do you think they’ll continue at this weight class?
So obviously I would love to see Buakaw… almost positive this wouldn’t happen the por.pramuk camp would want way too much loot. Artur would be dope. Any of you applying?

Definitely would be an experience of a lifetime. I know that I’m not near that level since I’m still trying to get my 4th fight in B class.
The first season will always be the best, the lineup was really good.

Skarbowsky , Laursen , Pique , Malaipet , Orono. just afew off the top of my head. Maybe for the next season have someone like Kor Hemmers or Samkor be an advisor on the show.

A 2nd season would be great! Although I hope they get rid of the challenge portions to determine who chooses the fights. Personally, I’d like to see more training and less watermelon killing.

I am not signing up, I dont think I started early enough in my life, but my enviroment determined that i couldnt until I moved abroad from Greenland. I hope i reach a ok level af skill, but there is a long way still. If you wanna see me kick a sandbag search on my name in Youtube. I just dont think I am contender material, maybe in 5 to 10 years. But by then I will be quite old.

If they cast any known fighters and they most likely will. I hope it would be top names from Thailand, and more that two this time. Like there was 3 aussies this season, Like Saenchai, Buakaw, and Attachai or Samranchai, Mixed with raw unseen talent like Dzhebar and Zach and little know fighters with a lot of skill like Soren or David or even Raffik(now that I dont have to relate to Raffik as a real person cause he isnt in the show anymore, its easier to like his good fighting).

Of course I when i wrote “unseen talent like….” I meant they should cast people that have the same Characteristics as the fighters I mentioned . Sorry

Yes they should have some good advisors like how the American Contender had Sugar Ray. Whatever happened to Somluck? I thought he was supposed to be an advisor in the 1st season?
8 Suli // Mar 11, 2008 at 8:27 am
they should have 135LB i bet they would get a lot of good fighters.
9 Tong Po // Mar 11, 2008 at 8:45 am
I wouldn’t be surprised to get another season. The Contender had 3 seasons (I think). Also, multiple weight classes would be nice.

I may have said this before but my memory is crap. I have a friend from Australia named Kim Lowden that’s going to apply. I trained with him at Lanna (that’s where Sean trains). But he’s only got 20 pro fights under his belt. He’s tough as nails though.
11 Suli // Mar 11, 2008 at 9:51 am
I think the best way to do it would be to get a few big names and then get a whole bunch of guys who are tough as nails. That would make got marketing and a good show.
12 THE Machine (KEUNG JAK) // Mar 11, 2008 at 10:02 am
I’D LIKE TO SEE Saenchai, Buakaw, Samranchai,, Tony Jaa, Billy Blanks, The non thai guy that played Tong Po in Kickboxer, Souwer, Neungsiam from F&F, Anuawat, Kaew, Duane Ludwig, and of course NOPSTAR!
13 DaleMack // Mar 11, 2008 at 10:21 am
I would LOVE to get in that but I don’t have enuff fights I think
Maybe Contender 4 LOL…
But It would be nice to see Buakaw in there for sure…Keep Yoddy in there next season to so we can see Yoddy vs Buakaw !!!
14 Horc // Mar 11, 2008 at 10:54 am
I really doubt Buakaw will ever be in this show. But of course I hope I’m wrong! Would be great to finally see him deliver his vicious elbows once again…

Go a weight class below and may be bring back Trevor.
Broad reccomendations: Add more French, Japanese, Dutch and other really bad and obvious omissions. Less Aussies just to make things balanced and a fair representation of the world involved in Muay Thai.
Also 147lbs is I think by far a more hotly contested weight class with an even deeper talent pool. Could be more interesting than the odd flair up of tempers and who failed to smash a watermelon first try.

Peter Crooke!!! Too bad he couldn’t be in the first one.

Ray: “A 2nd season would be great! Although I hope they get rid of the challenge portions to determine who chooses the fights. Personally, I’d like to see more training and less watermelon killing” LMAO!!!!!!! Oh God… that is too funnny~

Ray, i agree. At least make the challenges more muay thai related.
As to fighters…definitely need more top notch dutch fighters. They should get some better fighters from the States too. Sorry for being ignorant, but honestly i don’t know any…anybody cares to throw out some names?
19 Stack // Mar 11, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Terris James, James Cook, Ra’ Karma, Jeremy Harminson. I’ll think of more later.
20 Stack // Mar 11, 2008 at 5:28 pm

21 Suli // Mar 11, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Ra karma!!! James cook for sure…

Thanks Stack. I’m living in Indiana. Everyone here does MMA and does not know many MT fighters. I’m probably the only guy in the school that only does MT. But i love it. lol

I think the challenges are necessary as a formality to determine who choose to fight who. They can do rock-paper-scissors instead and I wouldn’t mind!
Japanese, Russian (and other former Soviet) and Dutch fighters would be good to see.
24 Shadyeskimo // Mar 12, 2008 at 12:19 am
Uhh yes As Nop said Kyshenko or As Greg said Russian and other former Soviet, they usually produce mean good fighters. Ignashjov was one of my K1 Favorites a couple of years ago.

29 Kote Lor Loi // Mar 14, 2008 at 12:51 pm
How about kimbo, that would be interesting. Bob Sapp? +555hahahahahaha
30 Kote Lor Loi // Mar 14, 2008 at 12:56 pm
More Thais! Seriously, Thai are tremendously underrepresented in this show and in general.
31 grake // Mar 16, 2008 at 2:52 am
Maybe they should create a Contender Thai? haha… have to ask zach on that.
32 Stack // Mar 18, 2008 at 7:43 am
It’s a show reated for the west specifically Australia obviously but yeah more nationalities would be better served by better representation. As far as Contender -Thailand I think it’s obvious who the best are. No need for a show there with that premise among Thais.
