Traditional Thai Massage

For those of you who train hard, you need to get massages now and then. If you’ve never had a traditional Thai massage (Nuad Paan Boran) I would suggest you run out and get one asap. If you’re living in the States it’s going to be harder to find and for the most part it’s going to be fairly expensive.
Traditional Thai Massage differs from other forms of massage as it involves a great deal of stretching. A typical Thai massage is a 2 hour regiment, starting from your toes ending with your head. You’ll soon find out if you’ve got any hidden injuries or trauma to your legs.

On a day to day basis, I have very little pain in my legs, but as soon as they started in on my legs, it became clear to me that I had issues everywhere. I found that I’ve got issues with the area of my leg that has taken a lot of kicks.  My mom has a masseuse that comes to her house in Bangkok. She’s about 60 and has what can only be described as talons for hands. I’ve noticed that when she’s massaging my mom and aunts, there seems to be very little pain involved.  However when she starts in on my feet and my legs it’s actually quite excruciating. he told me that Nak Muays should always get massaged at least once a week especially their legs and feet. Judging from the pain in my feet, calves, shins, and thighs I’ve got lots of things they need working out.
It would probably take at least a week or two to work out the issues I’ve got. Have any of you ever had your stomachs massaged? If you watch the fighters get rubbed down with Thai liniment you’ll see what I’m talking about. I think it hurts, I’ve been told yet again it’s because I’ve got issues. For those of you who are heading to Thailand to train, I would suggest getting one every other day. It’s so incredible affordable that it’s a waste not to.

Next time you’re in Bangkok I recommend that you check out this place called Health Land. It’s located within walking distance from the Chong Nong Si BTS stop. A 2 hour massage will run you about 400 Baht or $12. It’s ridiculous considering the equivalent will run you about $150 in the States.
If you’ve never had a Traditional Thai Massage, you may experience cold like symptoms afterwards. Don’t be alarmed it’s just the build up of toxins in your muscles being released, drink lots of water and chill.

Wow!…..I gotta get me one of those….lol. Sounds pleasurably painful in a good and healthy kinda weird way. Thanx for da info
Yeah, it is the best. Same for me, never really have pain in my legs until I go in there. My hips too. Can really feel how inflexible I am in some areas.
They also do some crazy moves that you have to be kinda ready for and relax through it. There is one move where they are behind you and you are sitting with your legs in front of you. They rock back and you go in the air, and you are suspended with your back on their knees and shins. Its a burley move and these masseuses (generally older thai women) are really impressive.
I always get back to the States wishing I had gone to more massage while I was there.
is this the move you’re talking about? I call that shit “The Rack” I hate it.
The first time I got a Thai massage, it felt like going through a workout! Oh, and I am not talking about any happy endings here, Dii Mak! Anyway, yes, I agree that it is very painful for those of us who don’t get it regularly, but here in the US its a bit expensive. Also, the massage really helps in relaxing ones body.
Nopstar,
Yeah, that is the move. I am never ready for it. Also, it seems that every place I have been to in Thailand has a slightly different way of doing the massage. Some of the moves are standard but then some will throw other shit in. Like “the rack” or the other one where they have you in a full nelson and go (neung, song, saam – 1,2,3) and turn your shit all sideways.
BTW, since this is a massage thread and Tong Po already has been slightly inappropriate as always. What is with the bathroom attendants at clubs (thai dudes) doing the neck massage. I DO NOT need a neck massage while I am pissing. Incredibly uncomfortable…. well, Tong Po might like it..
I would definitely have some stage fright if some dude starts rubbing my shoulders while I;m trying to drain ‘El gigante’ .. hahaha Damn I can’t wait to see somone submitted in the UFC with “The Rack”,,, And winner by submission due to “The Rack”..haha
Yall make it seem like thai massages are horrible and painful……I don’t think I wanna try it thanx a lot Nopstar, Tong Po and Dii Mak. Also….none of those nightclub attendants better even think about stepping in my perimeter when I’m tryin to leak “Mr Anaconda”‘s Yellow motor oil.
haha spydaman, i hate it when they do that. some of them come up and try throw your head sideways and crack your neck, which was cool for a few times til i started thinking, i have no idea how trained these guys are?
after that i never let them touch my head.
Thanks for the warning about the nightclub bathroom “attendants.” It’ll come in handy if I make it down to Thailand from China. Otherwise, I’d probably have pissed myself and those in the vicinity out of shock and loss of aim-control.
As some of you know, the problem back home in San Francisco is that the “Thai Massage” parlors are generally of the “full-service” variety. If ya know what I’m sayin…
