Tokyo K-1 Max Tournament

February 6th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Last night was the Tokyo K-1 Max Tournament. Sato, won it again for the second time. Buakaw was also on the card as a Super Fight. Click on the image below to watch the full fight. There are a couple of images that really caught my eye. I really enjoy seeing the Japanese fighters giving each other props.

Buakaw vs. Amara

The noteworthy bout was one of the amateur under card fights. Apparently you need to be atleast 17 to fight professinally in Japan. So K-1 made a special amatuer under card fight. K-1 fans were treated to 15 year old Kickboxing phenom Hiroya Abe. Hiroya start training Karate at the age of 3. (WTF can you do at 3? Drool and poop yourself?) He earned his black belt while in the 4th grade. Hiroya competed professionally in Thailand during his 7th and 8th grade “summer break”. Holy shit, I don’t even remember what I was doing…. I think that’s the summer I watch Revenge of the Ninja 30 times and mowed lawns for $5.

In April Hiroya will be going to school full time in Thailand… by the time he graduates he should have enough Muay Thai under his belt to be wrecking fools in K-1. Watch your back Masato…

I read about this kid. I read that Masato says that the kid has some skills and he even gave the kid some pointers. I can’t remember the source where I read it though. I like that Abe is going to Thailand and study (school and Muay Thai), he should learn quite a lot by the time he gets out of highschool.
