Ticket Sales

May 28, 2009 by nopstar

I think this is the MuayThai equivalent of jumping the shark.  How do we sell more tix?  I know slap the two biggest names of our sport on a poster.  Props to Burt for sending this one.  It’s apparently an exhibition…  just give us the real thing.    I love how  in Thailand they can’t even get his name right.  Bua- Kao not Buak-Sao!

Needless to say…English is not their language.

Fairtex has been trying for years now to get P.Pramuk to agree to this fight. I don’t think it’ll happen for another 2 years.

  5. TigerKing on May 29th, 2009 4:24 pm

So whats the deal why wont they agree to a fight?

  6. banana128 on May 29th, 2009 6:39 pm

i think it is very simple.
fairtex wants that fight to happen in order to make more money and por pramuk rejects because of making less money (if yod wins)

Apparently there is some bad press over this as some journalist wrote for the Bangkok sports column that Phuket is becoming known for it’s ‘real’ but nor real fight hyping. Namsaknoi Vs. Buakaw anyone? I think this is a bad practice and it is making Phuket begin to look like the home fopr paid sparring session viewing.

Fairtex had grounds to call for this fight in the beginnings of the call for Buakaw. But I think now it wouldn’t mean as much as Buakaw has lost some luster as the foreigner killing machine and Yod has comfortably gone on to smash everyone in his weight class with scary ease and is more settled at 160lbs truly than at 154lbs. I wonder what’s the state of Buakaw as he nearly got flattened by an opponent as little as a year ago he would have run over like he was barely there.

Uh oh…apparently Yod has allegedly tested positive for HGH in France that could lead to a minimum 2-year ban.

  9. banana128 on May 30th, 2009 1:11 pm

I read that, too but as far as I am informed this is not confirmed yet

  10. mlucas on May 30th, 2009 6:08 pm

    what is hgh?

  11. Stack on May 30th, 2009 6:48 pm

    Human growth hormone.

  12. mlucas on June 1st, 2009 12:46 am

are you sure you didn’t mean msg?

  13. Frank on June 1st, 2009 5:17 am

  14. Stack on June 1st, 2009 7:30 am

“are you sure you didn’t mean msg?”

Oh I get it because he’s Asian. Oh hohoho what a funny.

  15. SE on June 6th, 2009 5:16 am

    wtf yod using roids?

    …..
    :(

  16. mlucas on June 6th, 2009 9:44 am

    stack,

actually more because he eats asian food than that he’s asian.

  17. mlucas on June 6th, 2009 9:44 am

    stack,

    but your point is taken.

  18. Stack on June 8th, 2009 3:10 am

It is? Ok if you say so. OF course the people that thought it was hilarious were actually the ones I predicted.

  19. SE on June 8th, 2009 8:40 am

i dont think mlucas means any harm. any more info on yod and hgh?

  20. Stack on June 10th, 2009 1:06 am

I doubt Matt meant any harm too. I like Matt and I always look forward to his writing. The punchline just would not have made any sense had it been salt for example. I just identified the joke in it’s context.

Beyond that I draw no conclusions except that the first one to find it funny was exactly who I would have predicted.

HGH updates? Not yet. The site newsboxe.com still has that as their headline and they haven’t withdrawn their statement despite what I am sure is some angry communiques from Fairtex. I sincerely hope it’s wrong and Yod is found innocent as it really puts a black eye on Muay Thai. But if the French Commission is correct then they should take whatever requisite course of action is mandated. What basis can any sport have if the rules aren’t enforced?

With that said it is pretty hard to 100% nail a HGH test unless you’re really using the cheap stuff. Newsboxe reports this as a positive usage finding already but I’ll reserve judgment until more facts come out. Like I said, I sincerely hope this all a big mistake and Yod is cleared for his sake but even more no matter the outcome I hope justice is served. No matter how admired a fighter is keeping the sport fair is the most important thing that can come out of this.

  21. SE on June 10th, 2009 1:23 am

so the only basis for this is a french website?

  22. Stack on June 10th, 2009 1:51 am

It’s been confirmed as true by some french contacts I know. But press wise this is the only site I see reporting it at all. For you guys I cannot verify how valid the claim is or affirm my sources for you other then to say they have no motive or benefit to lie and they’ve never lied to me. That said Yod and Fairtex haven’t made one statement either as confirmation or refuting the claim. Newsboxe, a month prior was extolling the talent and virtue of Yod and praising his talent so I don’t think they really have an ax to grind against Yod.

Needless to say this story has already caused a big stir in the international Muay thai community. But I’ll reserve judgment until more facts come out.

Personally, I don’t find it likely however I do find it possible.
