The Rest of Slamm

March 10, 2008 by nopstar

By the looks of the Yodsanklai v. Souwer discussion, a lot of you may be over Slamm coverage. I think this will be my last post on the matter.

It occured to me today I didn’t really get a chance to update you on the rest of the Slamm fights. I’ve been pretty busy… I’m sure most of you have already done a little digging.

I didn’t record the other fights as you might have suspected. I don’t know if any of you have ever tried but it’s pretty damn distracting. In my Yodsanklai v Souwer, I was a bit slow tracking the action because I had to put the camera on my knee. The camera gets super sensitive once you start zooming in the +20 range.

Obviously when I can find some good footage of the fights, I’ll be sure to get them up asap.

Anyway, Here is how it went down…

Fadi Merza vs Naruepon Fairtex — Naruepon Fairtex Merza
This fight was one of the sloppier fights in the evening. It’s all a bit hazy know, but lots of clinching… Not sure what happened here but Merza failed to make it out of his corner in the 3rd. I suspect he was nursing some injury.

Menno Dijkstra vs Samranchai –Samranchai decision

Rachid Belani vs Saenchai -Saenchai decision

In typical Saenchai style, he came out blazing with his flying teeps and cartwheel kick. A couple of times he just stood in front of rachid do his shuffle. Rachid fell victim to analysis paralysis, as he wasn’t really sure how to counter or react to it.

Saenchai is definitely getting more confident with his cartwheel kick… This was the first time that I’ve seen get a running start at it.

Dennis Scheindmiller vs Malaipet ——– Malaipet decision

This was another controversial fight… Scheindmiller who we last saw in one of the many max qualifiers was staying pretty busy. He was landing clean punches on Malaipet. I’d have to go back and watch it, but Malaipet was landing his thunderous body kicks. In the end the crowd wasn’t happy. Malaipet was pretty much booed out of the ring. I don’t know we’ll find a clip of this soon.

Hassan Ait Bassoun vs Anuwat —— DRAW
I was pretty excited to see Anuwat in action; he’s one of my favorite fighters. I’d have to say Anuwat looked rather haggard. I’m not sure if it was the jetlag, or if he’s just slowing down? Hassan really didn’t have anything to put Anuwat in danger. As the fight wore on Hassan kept slipping or falling … Anuwat was getting pissed, in the end he basically gassed from stalking Hassan.

My highlight of the evening was I got to sit down with Saenchai for a minute or two and meet him. Part of me wanted to do a little a quick little video interview with, but I thought better bet of it. It was my first time meeting him and would have felt like a douche whipping out a camera and sticking it in his face. Next time I suppose.

GOOD STUFF NOP. I THOUGHT THAT ANUWAT WOULD HAVE SERVED HASSAN. I ALSO THOUGHT THAT NARUEPON’S FIGHT WAS GONNA BE EXCITING BUT I GUESS NOT.

Nop. How do you know that Saenchai doesn’t like to be filmed? Maybe he would enjoy talking to his fans around the world :) on the internet

I though malapeit was fighting Marco Pique?

From the low quality vids on youtube it looked to me that Malaipet won fairly with consistent knees in the clinch.

Dennis had his moments but Malaipet dominated from the view I had. Maybe a closer look would show differently.

Nop wow you met Saenchai, Cool.

The Malaipet thing doesn’t surprise me too much.

It’s fairly uncommon for a Thai to leave for the west as young as Malaipet was when he did.

He can be a spotty performer. I suppose now he is truly ready for MMA with that kind of performance. Kind of a shame to see.

Can feel Nop’s pain by reading his comment.
Watched the fight yod vs souwer and anuwat vs hassan. Majority agrees the outcome should be different. Yod with draw (or even win) and anuwat with win. Coming such a long way to see some great fighters getting robbed… sad.

Just watched the other fights on Eurosport.

Saenchai outclassed Belani. Belani had his moments with hands, but overall Saenchai was just too evasive and on another level with his various techniques. Interesting though, he didn’t want to perform clinching, maybe because fighting in Europe.

Naruepol beat the shit out of Merza with knees. Merza didn’t have a game plan and didn’t answer the bell, his ribs were damaged, not sure if broken.

Schneidmiller should won over Malaipet. The more the fight was near the end, the more Malaipet was locking his opponent. Schneidmiller showed a big heart, while Malaipet was kinda boring. Schneidmiller was also a replacement for Marco Pique.

Fight between Bassoun vs Anuwat wasn’t shown, don’t know why… anyways I’ve seen it on youtube. Like Nop said, Anuwat was robbed here. Bassoun didn’t want to counter, was running around the ring and that was it. It seems that Anuwat didn’t fight convincingly, because he didn’t had a chance to catch him, heh. draw.

Well, the last fight… we all know the fight between Yod and Andy. Nuf said.

Little off topic… there was also shown a fight between Kraus and Chahbari for a WFCA Welterweight World title, anyone seen it?
To me Kraus was robbed here… he was fighting Chahbari in his hometown, didn’t won “convincingly” so he lost.
