The Doctor will see you…

July 17, 2007 by nopstar

Wow, so for all you Saenchai nuthuggers (myself included) your day is about to get a little brighter. Big thanks to Joe for bringing this to our attention. “Hellfighter” posted a few days ago that Saenchai himself will be teaching at the newly opened “Dr. Saenchai Muay Thai Gym”

Sanchai Muay Thai Gym

I’m so glad these guys have a sense of humor. It’s part of the fairly new 13 coins resort, by the new international airport. For those of you who’ve lived or have been to Bangkok you might or might not recognize 13 coins. I read the news and was like “13 coins has a resort?” 13 Coins is a Thai/international restaurant… It’s kind of like Denny’s. Seriously the only times I had rolled into that place was when I was completely wasted. I digress…

I’m definitely going to check it out, only because I’m interested in meeting Saenchai. The place is way the F out there. Its probably a good idea to spend the night out there. It isn’t like your going to pop in for a quick morning session. Since it’s on the way to Suvarabhumi you can grab the toll road, however weekday morning traffic might make it very difficult. This is how it’s going to go down. I’m going to train, then I’m going to wander over to the pool, I will order Moo Ping, then I will soak and nap by the pool. That’s straight ballin.

It says that training is about 500 per day, 7-9 am is running and drills, 4-7 pm is when the hard core training strarts. It say’s if you stat at the resort they’ll also waive the training fee. I checked and the room rates start at about $35.

If you’re interested in training at Dr. Saenchai’s Muay Thai Gym, you can call the resort owner Mr Coke on (+66) 086-888-8813 or contact Jason at 087-020-4510 or email 13coins@email.com for your reservations.

Who’s down?

Thanks for the report, will have to check it out. I really dont get this though. Maybe it is close to Saenchai’s house? Is it guaranteed that Saenchai will even be there?

Man, this is so thai it aint even funny…

Fuck, I’d LOVE to train with this guy, then go get a big ol’ Grand Slam, 13 coins style, to put the calories back on.

I wish there were more Seanchai vids out there. I love watching this guy fight. What weight is he fighting at these days? Do you guys think he could he put on enough weight to compete in K-1? That would be a treat!

  4. Bunzy on July 17th, 2007 12:15 pm

I think he’s too short for K-1, but i could be wrong ( which i am wrong most of the time ). Take Zambidis for example. I think Zambi is shorter than Seanchai. Again, I could be wrong.

Nop’s profile lists him at 170cm (which is just a shade under 5’7″). Zambi’s profile on K-1 says he’s 5’6″. I think those are both overestimates, but yeah Saenchai is probably a bit taller and has way more weapons than Zambidis. The question is how many could he use in K-1 effectively? Plus, I’ve been watching some of my old Max DVDs, and it seems like they value punching probably more than kicking or kneeing. Otherwise, there’s no way Buakaw should’ve ever lost to Kraus or Souwer.

$35 a day to stay there and training with Dr. Saenchai is free! Sounds like an awesome deal to me! The way he fights if anyone can be called a doctor of muaythai it would be him. Very smart clever fighter. I know training there would be quite an experience.

This is like if it was 1989 and Michael Jordan was giving you free basketball lessons if you stayed at a hotel in Chicago.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be out there late December. I’ll be the fat kid by the pool hogging all pork skewers…

On a side note… Screw training, I wanna go hang out on Slayers Boat! Seriously is that your boat? Nice.

  9. Slayer on July 17th, 2007 9:23 pm

I’m one of the owners of 3 boats actually(Southern Cross, Budyadahri, and Mikumba), and we help book a 4th (Saranya). I’m the only land-based guy in a small group of owners, so I do all the promotion/booking/web/finance/etc. from my home office, then I go to Indonesia usually twice a year for about a month. It took me a long time to get where I’m at, but needless to say, it’s a cool life. ;)

NOP: So when you organzing a trip to Thailand for us??

  11. nopstar on July 18th, 2007 10:31 am

Group trip huh? What are you proposing? Sort of we book our own travel/accommodations? And we just meet up and go train? Or something a little more organized?

I guess it would be cool if we did something like

    • Visit and train at Camps, A, B, C
    • Day trips to Ayuddhya?
    • Watch Tong Po pick up lady boys
    • Buy gear (bulk discount)
    • Catch fights at Lumpini, Rajadomnern and Bangla?
    • Buy me moo ping

I’d wanna get a Sak Yant.

But if you’re serious you should call up an airline, groups of three get great discounts anywhere from 20 – 50%. More people gets you even more of a discount….

I went to the 13 coins gym in September 2007, early morning. I speak a bit of thai and was very polite, walking up two men sitting on the ring asking if I could train there. They did not say yes but “wait”. No warm welcome .. I was very very polite.

There is a long carpark next to the ring and that is where the fighters run in circles, so I just started running until they all stopped running.

It’s quite boring to run on that carpark in small circles, nothing like running along a beach or over mountains like in Phuket, there it doesn’t get boring at least.

Well, I did not have gloves or handwraps or any equipment, so I asked in Thai if I could borrow some of their handwraps, but there were only a few pairs and seemed like every fighter had their dedicated pair .. finally they found some cloth for me.

A trainer told me to work on the bag, which was hard but not very heavy, so bouncing around a lot. There was only one other bag but the fighters were using it.

A trainer then held pads for me 1, 2 rounds and Seanchai also came in for training, I don’t think he is actually teaching or holding pads for foreigners there, unless maybe he does that when he is not training himself .. no idea ..

At the end I asked how much I owed them for the training and nobody could tell me a price, they started to make a phone call to ask someone else and then told me they would tell me the day after.

I also looked at the rooms of that hotel and they looked cheap.

I didn’t like the atmosphere there, it did not feel they like welcomed a foreigner there :(
And I like running better in a nice place than on a car park in small circles, too.
