Is anyone really suprised by this? I spoke to some of my peeps who are involved with this, looks like they are pushing back filming by a couple of months. I recently interviewed Alfonso Gomez a first season “Contender” for an article I’m doing in the upcoming issue of the Bangkok Trader. For those of you living in Bangkok, save me a copy. Alfonso is going to be the host of “The Contender Thailand“, I thought it was strange too. Anyway I’ll post that article in a week or two.
According to my peeps they’re getting caught up in a lot of contractual bullshit. I completely understand, its crucial that the winner of the competition isn’t leaked to the public before the show airs. So the fighters have to sign these lengthy confidentiality agreements that come with fairly stiff penalties if broken. Well apparently a lot of the fighters feel like they don’t need the hassle. I’m not sure how many of the original fighters have bowed out, but apparently the producers are having more trouble signing fighters then they anticipated.
Anyway I hope they sort out their shit soon, I’m still very much interested in watching it.

Wow, I’m really looking forward to this.
Will they just translate what everybody says? It’s supposed to be an all Thai cast, right?

No they are going to have some international fighters. I think Ole Laursen is one of the fighters. Should be interesting.

Spyda… like the title says “Contender …Thailand.” Thus, it is a show in Thailand (to be shown in Thailand and Europe), not for the US.
Mark Bernett, the original creator of Contender, started making shows outside the US before Survivor.

Oh man!….That sucks!…I kinda understand though. It seems that Muay Thai has never fully caught on in the US…Especially since MMA is everywhere. Thanx Dii Mak and Tong Po for letting me know. I got happy for nothing. I would appreciate if u did keep us posted on the show.
