Anderson Silva – Nak Muay
July 22, 2008 by nopstar · 25 Comments
I struggled with this post… wasn’t sure if I could justify putting it up on MyMuayThai. I’ve only ever posted a handful of MMA clips on here. Come to think of it one of the last one’s I remember posting was Anderson playing with Rich Franklin in the clinch. He’s a Nak Muay so I guess I’ll make an exception for him. Props to Mathia83 for the upload.
After that fight everyone and their mother wanted to know what a Muay Thai clinch was aka plum. You can credit Anderson for brining the Muay Thai clinch into the world of MMA. Anderson once again show’s that he’s a Nak Muay. I see Irvin has been spending time in Fairtex Pattaya and training with Ganyao… I’m almost certain Ganyao didn’t teach him to drop his guard like that when your kick’s been caught. I can still hear him screaming, “You kick like a girrrl!” Read more

Many thanks to Commando for allowing us a sneak peak at his book Muay Thai Uncovered. Commando, has been all over Muang Thai documenting camps for his upcoming book. I don’t think there is anyone out there who has been to more camps then he has. In addition to his writing, he’s been fortunate enough to get a fight in at Lumpini and will be fighting on one of the Televised UBC fights from Rangsit stadium. Give em hell Commando! In addition to profiling camps, he does in depth profiles of the camps fighters. Anyway thanks for letting me run this.

Jangjao is 11 years old at time of writing (2008) and is a stand out amongst the new generation of Fairtex’ Nakmuays. The necessary ingredients are in place for him to go on and achieve all that is possible within the sport both in Thailand and internationally, and if he continues to work as hard as he does now, he will do just that, and it is entirely feasible to me that in 6 or 7 years he can attain the same level of global acclaim that the likes of Yodsanklai and Buakaw enjoy today.

By necessary ingredients I’m referring to three principal components of his training which, on top of his own phenomenal natural ability, will ensure he develops to his fullest potential, and they are first and foremost, a fully skilled, dedicated and experienced trainer, secondly, a promoter with extensive worldwide contacts who is also experienced in nurturing young fighting talent, and thirdly, a fully equipped Muaythai camp with which to train at within metres of his home. Jangjaos trainer is his father, former Fairtex fighter and now trainer Jakrit Fairtex, whose ever watchful eye on his sons training routine ensures Jangjao doesn’t slack off for a second. Jackrit reached the rank of number 2 at Lumphini stadium in 1993, the champion at the time being Read more
Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Sebastien Favre

This is pretty old footage, but it’s the first I’ve seen of it. The fight took place in May of ’07, a couple of months after he beat the shit out of Rafik Bakkouri. Watching this fight I can’t help but think this is a new form of tourism? You get dudes who pay big money to go on canned hunts so they can bag some big game, maybe this is the latest craze… get your ass beat by a Muay Thai champion.
This is only the 2nd round, but you get the idea. Big thanks to Kalgoran for sharing.
Seriously though how heavy is this guy? I heard Rafik paid something like 100,000 baht or about ($3,300) for the privilege of taking one of Yodsanklais knee in his gut. Read more
Paris Show

This is a little late in getting up but it took a while to get some footage. This is from the july 12th show in paris. I would have liked to have gone to this. On a whole I’m pretty impressed with French Nak Muay’s… I think their movement and technique is the truest outside of Thailand.
Naruepon Fairtex vs. Yassin Venhadj
On a side note, maybe someone can help explain this to me (Spyda) if my history is correct most of Arab sounding names in France are probably of Algerian decent. Is it me? Or are the only good nak muays coming out of France are of Algerian descent? (Farid Villaume, Murad Sari, Dida Diafat, Raffik Bakouri, Yassin Benhadj) Read more

Yodsaenklai Fairtex has made a huge contribution to promoting Muay Thai worldwide after becoming the first winner of Contender Asia last week
Story By: KITTIPONG THONGSOMBAT
Yodsaenklai Fairtex became the first champion of the Contender Asia – the world’s first Muay Thai reality show – last week. The victory is a huge boost for both the Thai traditonal martial art and the fighter himself.
The show, which was filmed in Singapore for two months, has helped promote Muay Thai worldwide and made Yodsaenklai famous on the international stage.
“Foreigners know me better now,” said the 158-pound Yodsaenklai who took the winner’s cheque of 5 million baht.
The 22-year-old boxer adds the Contender Asia trophy to his collection of titles which include three Lumpini championship belts in 105, 147 and 154 pounds and WBC Muay Thai 154 pound belt. Read more
Fashion or Tradition?

So it seems like everyday when I walk into the gym I see more and more fighters training in MMA shorts. Most of them do roll, so it isn’t so much a statement, but an issue of practicality. I’m still undecided… I’d sort of feel like a poser, like I’m jumping on the MMA bandwagon. The other half of me thinks that this a natural progression. When Muay Boran became Muay Thai, changes were made fighters wore trunks. Is this where its going ? I guess when I see the guys at Lumpini sporting them I’ll know. I came across these, I’ve never been a big fan of the grappling shorts, but these did catch my eye. Personally I think they are on the pricey side @ $55 Here is a clip of Ganyao and Yodsanklai showing them off.
