Bring back crazy Mike

I’m always surprised that I’m not seeing Mike Tyson in K-1. I know he’s out of it, but I still think he could take some heads off.
I think it’s because he’s too unpredictable, unstable and most importantly crazy. The Japanese love Bob Sapp because he’ll play that role, but in the end I’m sure he’s quite reasonable. Mike on the other hand would probably eat someone in the front row. Read more
Hard Knock Life

Another Olympics come and gone, watching the boxing and the TKD, you can’t help wonder when they’re going to implement electronic scoring. There were so many shady calls. I saw a clip on tv, where this inventor has essentially fitted sensors in the gloves and body armor… any blows that have enough force behind them will register. Seems like a no brainer.

If and when Muay Thai does make it into the Olympics where going to run into the same issues with judging. Anyway, I don’t want to get side tracked this post isn’t about the scoring or judging.
Big Congrats to Somjit and Manus for securing some bling for the Kingdom. One fighter who won’t sharing the spotlight is Amnat Ruenroeng. Despite losing in the quarter finals, I find his story more compelling then any gold medal. I wanted to share this article from the Bangkok post with you guys. You can read the original article here.
I’m a huge sucker for these types of stories, anyway a huge congratulations to Amnat for making it as far as he did. I hope good things can happen for him. Read more
Only Six More Limbs to Go.

I came across an article yesterday about British Boxer Frances “Franny” Jones, a former British welterweight contender who is looking to transition into Muay Thai.
In Muay Thai we have a handful of fighters with Muay Thai backgrounds who’ve excelled in Queensbury rules boxing. Somluck Khamsing comes to mind… We’ve even got some Nak Muay’s who’ve started their life as boxers and have transitioned nicely (with lots of work) to Muay Thai. John Wayne Parr, Warren Stevelmans, Virgil Kalakoda, Albert Kraus et al.
BTW, I’m not taking the piss with the picture… it was the only one I could find of him.
I was reading the article and I was struck by his cockiness. He is a boxer of course… talking shit seems part and parcel of that game. Read more
Tuning up my hands

The start up I work for recently moved to a new home by London Bridge. I was pretty psyched to find a Boxing Gym literally just up the block.

I find boxing an excellent way to combat Muay Thai burnout. For those of you who’ve never done any formal boxing, I whole heartedly recommend that you do. I find boxing so technical and incredibly challenging. I’ve been doing muay thai for a while and I still find my hands subpar. When you start working with a boxing coach, you suddenly realize how inefficient and “loose” your form is. Read more
Tyrone Spong & Floyd Sr.

I’ve been spending too much time trying to get up the K-1 Sweden Finals… for some reason veoh isn’t cooperating.
But no worries, Tong Po to the rescue! Many thanks to Tong Po for passing this video along. We’ve done a post on this in the past, but as some of you know Tyrone Spong spent some time in the States with Floyd Sr. Spong’s got some skills, 23 years of age… kind of scary to consider how much time he still has in the game. Corbett should worry.
Anyway, you’ll have to listen to a few minute of Sr’s dribble… but it’s all part of it. You enjoy this and I’ll see if I can’t sort out what is happening to our vids.
Devid Lookmahanak

Last week Devid Lookmahanak faced off against WBC lightweight boxing champ Jorge Arce in Mexico.

Arce (49-4-1, 37 KO) was the heavily favored fighter coming into the bout. No one thought Devid, (18-1) would make it past the first round of the bout. In the middle of a bull-fighting arena in front of a 18,000 hostile fans Lookhamanak went the distance. Read more
