So here’s the bout that everyone on AX has been talking about. I was at this show, saw Steve before the fight, couldn’t believe how big he’s become. So loads of drama with the fight…
Originally this bout was for a belt, but the story goes that Levin’s camp wasn’t informed it was for a belt? So no belt…. I guess during the weigh in’s the Wakeling camp felt that they Team Levin was mocking them… I don’t know I wasn’t there.
I’ve never been much of a Levin fan, I think he’s a punk… I don’t care so much for his taunting or his attitude. I understand he’s fighting in front of a hostil crowd, but even between rounds he had shit to say with people sitting next to the judges. If your going to mug and taunt you’d better bring it. What do you think? Did he bring it?
So, loads of post fight drama clearly people aren’t happy with a decision, there seems to be some controversy around the adding of the score cards, You can view the thread here. Quite a lengthy discussion until the thread get’s hijacked .
Statement on AX by Mark Wakeling (Steve’s coach/dad)
“And thats what im doing now, they robbed us of the world tittles four days before the fight, even though levin agreed to come and fight for a world tittle, even two days before threatened to leave the country with out fighting if a world tittle was put up.
And they laughed about it at the weigh in, to mess our heads up.
It worked with me, but Stephen kept his head and sent the best light heavy weight world champion back home a losser.
But for ukmf to back him and add 48 plus two stars to 50 a draw is criminal.”
I need to watch it again, but i felt like it was the right call when it was said and done. I don’t think Wakeling woke up until the later rounds and Levin… Loads of straight rights to Wakelings 10 pack… not very effective.
Thoughts?

I thought Wakeling won, but can see how it would be scored a draw outside of Thailand. And that British announcer is a right twat at least pretend to be objective..

Hmm.. I have to say I wasn’t impressed by both fighters. The whole fight looked sloppy and wasn’t excited at all. Artem only threw the same punches over and over again, Wakeling only landed single shots. As for the decision, it was hard to define the winner imo, so I think a draw was a good decision.
The commentator is a fucking asshole. He should be banned from commentating muay thai fights. it’s the same asshole that dared to say Petrosyan can kick harder than Pajonsuk and a lot of other nonsense. And indeed, he should at least try to be objective. He is always licking some fighters’ balls.
After seeing this fight, I think Simon Marcus is able to beat Artem.

Agree about Marcus beating Levin. I give the fight to Wakeling based on the value of the shots he landed vs those landed by Levin. I was impressed by Wakeling, but I’ve never seen him fight before, so maybe this was a mediocre performance compared to others.

I don’t think Wakeling was fighting below his level in this match, but I guess the commotion and drama is more due to the fact that beating the current nr.1 looks good on your resume.

Agreed!
July 24, 2012 at 8:25 pm
Yeah good fight. Didn’t know all the backstory and drama.
Man… agree with Grime. I had to turn the sound off. That one announcer needs to get Wakeling’s nuts out of his mouth. Horrible.
July 24, 2012 at 9:05 pm
.That was a terrible decision, Wakeling clearly won that fight. All Levin did was throw non stop pointless (mainly) str8 lefts to the body that had no effect and show boat around. He was continually out scored the whole fight.Rounds 4 and 5 were more than enough to absolutly guarantee a win for wakeling,I think he won the other rounds aswell.watched it with sound down so cant comment on commentary!!

Vinny Shoreman is a clown. I’ve always found his voice to be terribly nauseating, and his bias is ridiculous.
July 24, 2012 at 9:31 pm
dumb fucking brit commentator needs to sHUT THE FUCK UP. glad the sound went out.
July 24, 2012 at 9:33 pm
for some reason wakelings gloves looked like they had more mass than levins. another fishy thing aside from the fact hes obviously been ‘eating horse meat’ aka taking hormones.
July 24, 2012 at 10:02 pm
are we they competing in muaythai or boxing? If it is muaythai, then clearly wakeling won. If it is boxing then Levin. You be the judge.
July 24, 2012 at 10:18 pm
wowee wow wow, you guys love vinny shoreman!
July 25, 2012 at 12:36 am
If you listened to this on radio you would have sworn Wakeling was a Saenchai-esque, if you watched the fight you would have though Wakeling was risking kicks in exchange for jabs and bodyshots then bullied in clinch, if you watched vid with sound..you would think someone laid the wrong fight track over the video.
I agree Simon can put him away..all things being equal

it was kind of comical watching levin jab a hulk-like wakeling in the stomach like 50 times each round. levin perfomed very poorly, he got tired quick and didnt use much of his wepaons. i wonder why? . wakeling seemed like he trained super hard for this fight, hence the end frustration.
July 25, 2012 at 10:37 am
I know most british muay thai people have got nothing but love for Vinny Shormeman. But his commentary is always very biased if a uk fighter is on.That may not serve him too well in the future if hes going to carry on commentating and Muay Thai gets bigger which it seems set to do?I dont know the guy from adam but I do think NLP is a total load of old bollocks. But thats a different topic!
July 25, 2012 at 8:58 pm
So in Britain they like asskissers full of bullshit?
July 25, 2012 at 9:09 pm
I don’t know vinnie, and yes the commentary is over the top… but he does work for this promotion, and I’m sure this dvd is intended for this local market. I think he works for showtime as well and for them it’s more toned down.
July 26, 2012 at 1:42 am
It’s actually one of the things that annoyed me about his commentating during It’s Showtime as well.
July 26, 2012 at 10:41 am
slightly over the top response??!! Only in the same way that one may ask is america full of pompous, self important rednecks?!!!!!
July 26, 2012 at 12:20 pm
Maybe.
July 26, 2012 at 12:57 pm
hahaha, just jokes friend

For what it’s worth, I watched this with a Thai nak muay who said that under Thai rules Steve would have won. (Neither he nor I am not familiar with UKMF scoring). But doesn’t the real controversy relate to scorecards? From what I can tell, even if someone changed the card so Levin won round 3, Wakeling still would win on points. However, what I really find peculiar is that the judge keeps qualifying his scores: “I gave this round 10 * L / 10 W as it was early in the fight
Again been a tile fight a fairer Score would have been 10 / 9 (sic)”. His repeated claims that his scoring would different if this were a title match are nonsense. I would think that a title match would be scored the same as a regular bout, using the same considerations and the sanctioned point system?

“so before the match i told Artem: why don’t you try some body punches?” (cit. Steven Seagal)
