For those of you who are new to MMT, this bout features Stephen JittiGym.  Stephen hails from Ireland but spends a great deal of time living, and fighting in Thailand.  I’m hoping to get an interview with the “Ginger Ninja” in a months time.

Kind of funny, but for those of you familiar with the Thai obsession with light skin,  the commentators remark how attractive Steve’s skin is!  Steve, maybe you can get Ponds or Vaseline to sponsor you!

As always many thanks to livemuaythaiguy for the upload.

  1. Nice! Steve seems like a natural born scrapper and seems strong in the clinch! Should have a good career ahead of him.

One of the main things I was confused about was the whole “lighter skin is better” concept in Thailand. Its weird because where I am from in England and other western countries everybody wants to be golden brown and tanned but in Thailand its the complete opposite. No one wants to run in the sun because they don’t want to catch a tan and they slap a hand full of white powder on there skin to get lighter. I found it quite offensive because I am the same complexion as the average Thai and feel that everybody should be happy with whatever complexion they are. I got really offended when I was told by a Thai dude that Thai’s think white skin is attractive and beautiful whilst the darker skin is ugly! I feel there are all types of beautiful women out there no matter what complexion or colour they are, doesn’t make any difference to me. There will always be things I will never understand about Thailand…

    • its a lot to do with if your darker skinned it probably and traditionally means you worked outside, in the fields etc so therefore you are a worker and lower down the social pecking order, darker skin implies poverty, lack of education etc (in this context) therefroe lighter skin implies more refined living less physical labour so is therefore preferable and therefore more attractive.Or so Im led to believe

      • Yes, indeed. But people need to remember that this is something inherited from the influx of cultural elements thousands of years ago, and very rooted in society, not in only in Thailand, but in almost every (South East-)Asian country. Actually, I can not think of any Asian country that doesn’t prefere lighter skin.

Anyway, people who think in terms of skin colour are ignorant.

        • Your right its all over asia i think. When I travelled to phillipines from 2006-2009 I was dumbfounded by all the huge billboards and advertising everywhere tv etc about the latest findings to make your skin white. They are constantly bombarded by white is beautiful.. Its unfair to people who are not light skinned living there having to face these rediculous advertising everywhere and I feel for the children and teens too having to grow up amongst all that..

      • Yeah I heard that somewhere too…

    • this concept is very common in also in other places all over the world. nigeria, senegal, a lot of african countries or in jamaica, countries where black people is very black, i’ve seen with my eyes people putting kilos of whitening cream and bleaching their face.
basically white people tan to be darker, black people bleach to be lighter.

ANYWAY i hope one day the 2 best farangs will fight each other at lumpinee but i think there’s a 5lbs difference between Meleady and Alamos

      • I would think Lian Harrison one of the top fighters if not the top fighter outside of Thailand. I think he has a fight coming up next month against Alamos.. Not sure if thats right or I got mixed up with another fighter. Has Pinca fought meleady or are they at different weights.

  2. England would have been the same a hundred or so years ago.

  3. That was such a nice elbow at 8:16 by Meleady. It landed right on the button.

  4. wow dude, a white person doesnt understand certain parts of thai/asian culture? get over it. really. its the same in africa, some parts of the middle east, etc. and a preference of skin color is just that, a preference, just like glow in the dark white skin people want a tan. its REALLY not a hard general concept for fucks sake.

    good fight
