Spong vs. Yodchai, Slamm III

June 15th, 2007 · 14 Comments

Last but definitely not least in our fights from the Slamm III event is Tyrone Spong and Yodchai Wor. Petchpun. If I remember correctly Yodchai was a replacement for Suriya. I don’t know anything about Yodchai, so if any of you have any info on him, please share.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Spong is Killa, he’s scary fast. I know he wants to move to HW but I hope that the added weight won’t slow him down too much. His teep is sick, kind of reminds me of the Buakaw’s teeps to Masato’s grill.

Matt L, left a comment in the previous post about taking a punch to the face. I agree with his sentiments but I find it way more offensive to take a teep to the face. That’s typically when I start to lose my shit.

I notice that when I train in Thailand we drill a lot more teeps. I find the timing on those really tricky. When my timing is at its worst I typically crack my toes on someone’s elbows. Anyone else have this issue? Many thanks to our dutch brother kevin1813 for taking the time to share.

Have a great weekend. Nopstar out.

yeah, i used to stub my toes on my opponent’s forearm or elbows while teeping too! i guess the trick is to drive the foot horizontally into the opponent instead of firing it at an angle off the ground. some people even turn slightly to the side once the kick has been launched.. and that’s a solution too. thanks for bringing it up, i always wondered if other people had this problem too!

I’ve never been teebed in the face. It seems pretty awful, especially from a guy like Spong who is built to teeb, all arms and legs. I would assume it’d be pretty offensive for a thai person to be teebed in the face as they regard the head as the holding place of the soul and the feet to be pretty base. Although I’m sure every gets upset when kicked in the face.

Mike Regnier (my trainer) front teebs slightly horizontally when he kicks, like how souvik was describing above. He turns his hip slightly to the right making the ball of the foot land horizontally. It ends up looking like a combination between a regular straight forward teeb and a side kick.

I think teebing a swinging bag like on the video might help timing.

I don’t end up teebing too much when I fight as the teeb is more of a defensive kick (usually) and I tend to move forward. A lot of the time too when I teeb I end up moving backwards either because my partner is much larger than me or maybe because I have shit balance.

If i want my teep to be a jab i point straight with the ball of the foot and toes up (yes, it can hurt at times) but if i want it to be more of a power shot I point i turn my toes away from my body and use the heal to dig into the body.

When i throw a head kick i Never spin all the way around so what i do is if i miss the kick or he evades it once my foot lands i just use the momentum to hit him wit a side TEEP. IT ALWAYS WORKS…

Pretty bad mismatch. Wonder where they found him. Reminds me of a funny story. You guys hear the story how Bunkerd got Surikan that fight in Vancouver. Surikan thought he was gonna shake some rust off and get back into fighting. Fight ends up being an elbow fight, for a belt, against a totally in shape Sam Stout (the guy that just had that war of a fight on UFC against Spencer Fisher).

Yeah, when I get a teep to the face it really burns my panties! Spong is a tough fighter and I think he should actually not move up and dominate where he is now.

Sourikoun looked damn good in that fight against Sam Stout. He was a monster compared to Sourikoun and Sourikoun landed a lot of good shots.

hahahahahahhahaha Sam Stout?!?! how did you like that “caged” Muay Thai fight between Stout and Fisher on Tuesday with 4 oz. gloves? LOL

Point to Ponder: Why isn’t MT more popular in The States if people (i.e. MMA fans) get pumped when fighters stand up with kicks, punches, knees and elbows?? HHmmmm It think they’ve dranken too much Cool Aid and think anything in te cage is just that much better.

it looks like teeping is simply scoring, its not just this, its mindplay. u can see masato not blocking the teeps because he wants his arms where they are, buakaw knows this and teeps some more to get masato in doubt to block the next or not, which puts him in a locked position as u can see.
if u feel like u have too many elbow hits it could be because of alot of things.

but most of the time ur too transparant to ur opponent, put more time in getting to know ur oppo, make him want to keep his arms high, and if he doesnt, punish. its all about how your opponent sees you, do you allow him to block the teeps or not.
also dont just teep, keep ur knee and teep the upperlegs. next fake and see how he responds, if hes anxious to respond, fake and hook. or semi-fake, raise ur knee high and teep high not be too transparant. its a combination of many things..

The teep is actually one of my favorite weapons….I use them on offense (where I set up other attacks with it, or just pepper my opponent with them over and over) to the upper thighs, hip, stomach, chest. I use them on defense, mostly to the hips when the opponent is kicking to throw him off balance, or to the chest and stomach when the opponent is tries to bully u. I avoid teepin people to the face while sparring (unless my oponent is a jack ass), it is considered to be disrespectful. I like to fake a lead teep and throw my jab out…or fake a lead teep and then leap forward with the back leg’s knee. Teep Dtrong (Front teep), Teep Khang (Side teep), back teep…..I luv them all…lol

He is good I wont take that from him. but the guy he is fighting is quite short , much older then him, and look like he mght have retired already from fighting in thailand. I would like to see him fight Buakaw, and I amsure he would like to fight buakaw also.
anyway good show of skills .
the teep was pretty hot. I like to teep myself
I used it at the k-1 try out on a few individuals.

I found alot of guys that get caught on teep or mae geri is because they telegraph that shit big time…
the jocki gym guys telegraph but they penetrate so deep it doesnt really matter…Ive trained with Kaoklai and my buddy chris is from jocki both teep the same.
My teep, for a big HW is pretty smooth, I land it much more than my round kick. I tend to bring my knee up real high, I go to my toes on supporting legs and I spear that bitch out there, last second I pop my hips hard behind it, Nopedtsorn taugh me how to teep and ever since I hit hard about 80 percent of the time.

At the heavy weight level its not really points it pisses people off, is good for set ups and it breaks that heavy weight tank rythum some guys need, like Ruslan Karaev, I train with him too, hes hella faster than me but my teep annoys him

I have also been told by my teacher that I should get on the ball of my planted foot while throwing a teep….It helps throwing your hips deeper behind the kick. It works out great offensively, buit i found that defensively..when someone rushes u hard and u throw that teep…it throws u off balance..the I started watchin more videos (youtube, I luv u) and I noticed that most thai people stay flat footed while teepin. I was wonderin why..so I tried it…it helps u stay planted and makes it much harder for someone to throw u off balance. I also like to hop into my teeps, but u have to have really good reflexes to pull dat off defensively. Just my own preferences of course, everyone has their own way of doing things.
