Another slow news day… anyway I was watching this the other day, despite being a few years old it’s still worth sharing. As always many thanks to our community member bsfbkhdj for uploading and sharing these clips.
I would have actually liked to have seen Somrak in his prime. I know Somrak is the shit, but just once I’d like to see him fight someone who seems up to the tasks. I know that’s a ridiculous statement, but I’ve never seen him fight someone who’s on the level. I know Keddle is a good nak muay but I’m looking for someone a whole step better.
Watching Somrak fight is like watching the Harlem GlobeTrotters, you can appreciate it but you’ll almost feel like they fed him this fighter so he could clown him. It’s a shame most of you don’t understand Thai, but the announcer is kind of funny. The expression on Somraks face is classic when the fire works go off, sort of like it was out of one of the rocky movies.
It’s got to be the most frustrating thing to fight him. It’s worth noting Somrak won Thailand’s first ever olympic gold medal in olympic boxing, he’s very much a national hero. The guy can box though… so if he doesn’t want to get hit, you’re not going to… I think I read somewhere Somrak got his skills from his pop… used to train Mae Mai Muay Thai, and fought at all the local fairs.
I’m curious, but who do you think would win student or teacher? If it was a Somrak vs. Sanchai match up?

I love watching Somrak fight.
As for Somrak vs Saenchai….. I think Somrak would take it, because he can use his hands (when he actually decides to punch) much better than Saenchai (that I’ve seen)

I posted a fight between Somrak and Boonlai Sor Thanikul. Those two fought each other 4 times, Boonlai only won once of of the 4 meetings. There is also another between him and Suwitlek on my youtube account. Boonlai is one of the biggest muay thai stars of the era and Suwitlek was a lumpinee champ.
Somrak does have other superchamps beaten on his ledger, Gongtoranee, Chamuekpet, Namkabuen and Sakmongkol. It’s pretty amazing that he never became a stadium champ.
There is one video I had come across recently on the K-1fans site that has him getting beat by a boxer by the name of Buakaw Por. Pisitchaet. Ill have to crop it, and covert it though before reposting it.

Saenchai Vs Somrak that match would be a classic, i like them booth so i would like it to be a draw! :)
i hate to se them loose, so draw is the best for me even dough its boring to not have a winner.

Wow reminds me of Saenchai, such flair, such creativity. Totall lack of fear and withdrawel. I would hope Saenchai could win, but only because he is my favorite.

somrak vs kamel jamel is a perfect example. he puts on an elbow clinic. his response to a punch in that fight was a spinning heel everytime. sooooo good.

Somrak vs Saenchai is a tough one, I vote for Somrak since he’s better with hands.
Keddle is ok and has good heart, but in front of Somrak he looks like a total amateur.
