Sit-O Gym, Buriram – Update

March 22, 2010 by ldf

A number of great nak muays have carried the Sit-O name.  This includes Nong-O Sit-O,  Fasochun Sit-O, Jomthong Chuwattana and his fellow Raja champion brother Detpanom Chuwattana.

For those of you who had hopes of training here (like myself), please note that it has been dismantled.

My understanding is that the gym has been defunct for approximately six months now – the house fighters having moved to various gyms.

    Laura
Please not that Jomthong, Fasochun, Detpanom, and several other fighters from Buriram that been bought up by Chuwattana come from the Sit-O gym. Its been selling their fighters / having a hard time to run due to the owner/manager being in very bad health condition. Sad because it produced several of my and my others favorite boxers. I heard something though that Kaimookdam and Kaimookkao that been bought up by Chuwattana is/was still training in Buriram but fighting and being managed by Chuwattana. That might have changed recently though.

Nong-O, however comes from the Sit-Or gym located in Bangkok not very far off from Lumpini, about 5 minute on a motorbike. That gym is still going, with a fairly big stable and doing well.

thanks william – yeah, a lot of chuwattana’s fighters have come from sit-o, which was a part of the reason i ended up here in buriram – i just spent the past year living at chuwattana. you confirmed a lot of what i’ve been told (didn’t realize that about nong -o thanks for the correction). chuwattana has a number of people coming in and out of there on a consistent basis – from different gyms, including in buriram. i was recently told that a space is being rented by chuwattana in the city, and a few of the sit-o nak muays are training there. i haven’t been to check it out yet – i also have no idea if they allow falang to train there.

Sucks about Sit-O Laura, thanks for the update. Are you in Issan right now? Where does Singdam Kiatmoo9 train, somewhere in Issan? That would be an awesome place to get a report on!

hey, robzepeda – yeah, i’m out here in isaan right now – kiatmoo9 is in buriram… i can’t remember the name of the town right now. i met a guy that fights professionally in japan that trained there – didn’t get a lot of info due to language barriers, but he liked it a lot.

Heres the most retarded question of the day. But is sit-o sityodtong? Or a completely separate camp?

  6. ldf on March 26th, 2010 3:03 am

tfwmt – sit-o and sityodtong are two different gyms – and i didn’t think it was a stupid question….there are so many different spellings, etc. of gyms out here….

    laura–
i was wondering if perhaps you might think about writing an article about your recommendations for gyms that you found to maybe excel at training women fighters. i’ve had the problem at a few gyms where there simply weren’t women (or boys/men small enough) for me to spar/grapple. one of the reasons i went back to rawai muay thai on my 2nd visit was simply b/c they tend to have a good rotation of female fighters. though at this point i’d like to try out some gyms in different parts of thailand. don’t know if you have any experience or could drum up a few ideas. thanks!

    Hi,
i trained at Sit-O last february 2010 in Buriram city.
their gym is near the public hospital, 300m from the large Vat.

they have around 10 fighter, best ones are:
-palungpol chuwattana (current champion in radja 108lbs)
-kaimukdam chuwattana (regualary in radja, i went with him as he was fighting)
    -kainmukao chuwattana (also in radja)

camp manager is very nice, i’m sure he accept females. but be careful, it’s not clean there… cost is 200bth per session

i’ll go to train again in may 2010 there, let me know if you wish to come.
i can help you to communicate (they dont speak english)
i made a video of one of them fighting in local fight

thanks jonit! i’m still here in buriram city and now, i’m completely confused. people keep telling me it’s closed – and not the same people. to clarify, the gym is still operating under the sit-o name? who is the manager?….for everyone else, please note, buriram city is really tiny…

  10. jonit on April 17th, 2010 12:39 pm

Yes the gym is still operating under Sit-O but it’s not easy to find because it’s in a small street. I’m not sure of the manager name sorry.
It’s not big, it’s dirty, it’s old, but there are good fighters who trains hard.

I’ll go to Buriram on 25 th April to stay and train there at least 5 weeks.

If you like i can bring you there no problems. (it’s near the train station in the city)
    let me know..

I didn’t know where to write this.

I’m thinking about maybe switch gym to Chuwattana, but I would like to know a bit more before I even head over there for a session.

How is the location. Is it far away from downtown Bangkok? How is the situation for running? Do u have to run along the road next to all the cars or is it more “country like” over there?

How is the trainers? Are they nice and humble?

How is the mentality there? Do they understand if u have some injury and can’t do everything that everybody else does, as long as you still train really hard?

Is it possibly to get sponsorship from them?

Do they have any good boxers (western) around 60 kg? (dont know pounds very well but thats perhaps around 130 p?)

Do u have any recommendatations of any gym that is pretty central?
How is Somraks gym? Where is it at?

I would really appreciate if somebody took the time to help me out with this questions, and even more if I someone can answer as soon as possible cause
I’m planning on trying out som gyms tomorrow.

I just noticed some incorrect grammar in my post. Sorry about that.

  14. jonit on May 19th, 2010 9:57 am

    Hi laura,
i’ll leave thailand 28th may sorry.

now Notonchai sit o (former raja champion 70kg)is at the gym training too.
it’s good cause he speaks english

he said the current location of sito gym is the old kiamonthep gym (samkor gym)
last weekend Kaimukao was on tv at Omnoi, he broke the arm of his opponent with middle kick. nice fight.
