Wasn’t sure what to expect from this fight, but definitely didn’t think things would go down like this…

    1. I haven’t watched a a Pique fight. He’s got good rhythm and feel for his opponent. No wonder he timed that right so well.

    2. I really like Sean Wright for some reason, so I hope he comes back. Two tough (for different reasons) losses in a row…

    3. Were there like 4 people in the audience? The announcer tried to pump of the crowd and you could hear 1 guy cheering and saying (nonchalantly) “we want another fight.” Hilariously flat. Then they show the audience while introducing the fighters and NO ONE was there. WTF?

Sean’s defense sucks. He opened himself every time hitting straight with his left hand. Marco just waited for an opening, and at 6:07, hit him with an overhand. Marco just patiently waited for an opening and bam, down goes Sean.

No one was there cause the event was way too long. It started at 8pm, I left after the Anuwat fight which ended at 2am. So I missed like 5 fights including this one and the Yod fight.
Another reason was that there wasn’t that many people to begin with. Hopefully next time they will trim the fight card and increase the promotion. The event has potential but they have to separate the fights from the fashion show.

God sudan when did the entire event actually end?

Man, that was a wicked overhand right. Hope Sean wright recovers frm this. I guess contender asia second season would be more exiting to watch with fighters like this. Usually dutch fighters are strong and have a lotta heart. Ramon dekkers can be quoted as an example for a farang muay thai legend. Is there any chance that this guy will be matched up against yod in this tournament.

    Sudan-

Let me get this straight, you flew to Jamaica, went to the fight and left before Yod fought? Did you have a 5 am flight!? Ok… 2 am is pretty ridiculous. Seriously, there had to be a reason for them starting so late. Either that or the planning committee can’t do simple math.

Right before Sean got knocked out, I thought “every time he (Wright) throws something, he opens himself up.” It’s a wonder that Wright hasn’t been knocked out more often. I would have preferred to see this go the distance though, first round knockouts aren’t too much fun.

everything happens later in the islands..thats why we call it island time=)..
Sudan I remember u said u had moved to Florida, where in FL are you. And did you make sure you got some Jamaican patties

Trust me Nop, I wanted to see this fight soo bad! but my wife and I had enough. We were practically the last ones to leave. Most of the crowd had bailed out a long time ago. The planning committee did a poor job. Fashion show, fight, exhibition, fashion show etc…
The last fight must have been around 5am.
To answer Padkeemaw’s question, I live in the Fort-Lauderdale area and no I didn’t have any patties but I had a few rasta relaxers (great drink) and of course, some jerk chicken.

When I first decided to go to Jamaica, I thought the fights were going to be over the course of 2/3 days. I called Risarc, they told me someone would call me back and no one did. I had no clue of the fight order, the price or if there was any tickets left! Who ever was in charge of this affair did a really bad job. I hate to say it but its the truth.
Although the event was a mess, I would still do it again. The only difference is that next time, I’ll pace myself and stay till the Yod fight.

  13. nopstar on July 2nd, 2009 7:10 am

    5am! what? seriously…there couldn’t have been a planning committee.

  14. Stack on July 2nd, 2009 7:47 am

Ok food for thought Nop. I am asking you this because I want your real opinion on this:

How is it these guys spent so much money on the venue with seating for thousands, a near 5-star accommodations for the fighters and their respective teams and marketed the hell out of this? Now fast forward to the night of the event and the various PPVs are completely bungled. The event goes over time and people leave. Where is the massive slush fund to spend all this money and just bleed it back out from basic incompetence?

If you’re not afraid of any recrimination let me know your honest opinion if you can.

Sudan, if you ever pop over to the other coast in the Tampa/St pete area you can check out our humble MT establishment: Tampa muay thai.
Rasta relaxers? Must be something for tourists, all we really drink is rum and coke and scotch and coconut water=). But then again I am trinidadian
That whole fight looked as if this whole event had already made money and the fight was the sideshow..it looked empty, dragged on and feed was shady. I am very thankful for the high quality vids here.
Who is this marco Pique? I must seek out more footage of him

  16. sudan on July 2nd, 2009 3:17 pm

Padkeemaw, are you the guys who had a seminar with Jonsanan? I need a legit place to train, I think I will take a little drive to Tampa in the next few weeks and check you guys out.

I may be in BKK by the time u make it over here, though. Right now its 4th July weekend and I am off to S Pete beach, have fun in Ft Lauderdale

  18. sudan on July 4th, 2009 1:50 am

    Padkeemaw,
I’ll definitely be come through in the near future. Let me know when you guys have seminars like that. Good Thai boxing is hard to find in FL. Happy 4th and be safe.
