Samkor vs. Yodsanklai
September 10, 2009 by nopstar

Props to Samartsamartyanyan for posting and UltraMark for sending this one along (it’s been too long brother)
Some of you may have seen this vid recently being passed around on the facetubes, it’s an oldie but goodie.
The clip is the last 3 rounds of Samkor and Yodsanklai. This fight took place back in ’05 for the 70kg title, it’s interesting to see how Yod’s fighting style has evolved and changed. Granted Samkor is a badass, I don’t ever recall seeing Yod working so hard inside. I don’t really recall seeing him ever in the clinch for an extended period of time, or utilizing elbows as much. I think they’ve geared his fighting style to be more applicable to fighting K-1 and foreign fighters (less emphasis on clinching and elbows)
I think this was pretty much when Samkor’s career was winding down, I don’t think he fought much after this. I think he still maybe getting fights abroad, but i haven’t heard anything from him in well over a year. I think he’s a training at a gym on Koh Tao or Phangan… does that ring a bell with anyone?

thanks for posting, nop. expected a left kick war, but didn’t get it. this was around the time yodsaenklai fought and beat jwp for the wbc title, i think.
Samkor was way past his prime and too heavy. Yod was using some great knee techniques in this one, but he was too big for Samkor. Samkor was better 10+ pounds lighter.
Pretty even and awesome fight. I agree about Yods evolving, he also really matured as a boxer. Maybe Yod was clinching more simply because Samkor has great legs and the guy cought almost every Yods kick.
yeah samkor made it clear he was not taking repeated leg kicks from yod. a lot of times he was whooping yods ass.
^ i meant body kicks
I love these old clips of Yod, with Thai nak muays who stand toe to toe with him. Guess I am so accustomed to seeing other succumb to a cracked shell or uppercut, that it is quite refreshing to see his opponent bring the pain as much as he did…this was great, thanks for putting it on
he should have took more hgh to make it a decisive win.
southpaw supastars… great to see this (less k-1 tailored) side of yod. since the vid starts at the end of round 3, we dunno know that a left-kick war hadnt already occurred. i’m dying to see how it started out.
would have loved to see a fit changpuek against yod…
It’s amazing to see how much cleaner Yod’s style is now after a few years. Thanks.
Hey Guys,
Last I heard Samkor was training peeps out at Emerald in Krabi. Website shows it, but not sure if it is up-to-date.

On another note, Bangman is Zig Zachs trainer and I have only heard really good things about him (Bangman that is.. ha ha). He’s a super nice guy too. Apparently, thais bring their kids to the gym just to get some time with Bangman.
Cheers
