Props to Mark for passing this clip along. It features one of my new favorite fighters Saiyok Pumpanmuang against the young and up and coming fighter Antuan Siangboxing.
I did a post on Antuan about 2 years ago… for those new to MuayThai, Antuan is a French national who’s been living and training in Thailand since he was about 11. He’s currently 19, and according the Thailand vs. Challenger website his current record stands at 71W and 20 L, impressive considering nearly all of his fights have been in Thailand.
This bout was part of the Thailand vs. Challenger series; although looks to have been part of the Queens birthday celebration fights last week.
Looking at the size difference, I was actually expecting a little more out of Antuan. I know it’s preposterous for me to make comments like that from the safety of my keyboard… but I felt like with the height and reach and advantage Antuan should have been all elbows and knees.
It is Saiyok afterall, and I guess getting decked by one of his big uppercuts or leg kicks would keep you fairly occupied and off your game. What I was a bit surprised by his hands… they seemed a bit loose. If he’s going to continue to fight in Holland he’ll probably have to work on that.
Anyway, looking forward to more of these Challenger fights. Many thanks to the siangboxing camp for the uploads.

wow, super dominating performance from saiyok. i was hoping we’d see some more slick stuff from antuan but i suppose there’s not much you can do against someone like saiyok.

Saiyok has heavy hands and he hurt Antuan with them. I think his aggression helped too. The last round reminded me a lot of Yod’s or even Samkor kicking.

I agree with Tong Po, those kicks were intense. Would have been a pretty good fight to see in person.

For as slick as Antuan is, I don’t think he attacks enough. It might just be me but I’d like him to work on his offense more. He’s got good defense and likes to be slick with his dodges, checks and teeps, but what about his offense?
Anyway, I though Saiyok was dominant and displayed true muay thai using all the techniques. I meet him a few months ago in BKK and he seemed really shy and humble…but inside the ring he turns into something completely different!

That was dominating. Saiyok showed powerful hands for sure – I agree with Tong Po that those did seem to rock Antuan and take him out of his game (especially those uppercuts – ouch). I really liked how Saiyok used all the weapons effectively.

Saiyok was really explosive and strong. I’m a fan of Antuan, but i think his little brother Leo is going to become a far more dominant force to reckon with as he gets older.

I always like seeing the camaraderie and respect that is exemplified by MT.

Brutalized! Respect to Antuan for hanging on as long as he did but I’m surprised he didn’t break an arm or something.
