Saiyok Pumphanmuang

saiyok

There’s an interesting write up on Saiyok in MuaySiam, you can read it the full article on MuayMag.com.

I had some trouble find any info on Saiyok prior to seeing him fight in Holland.  It turns out Saiyok used to fight under the name Saiyoknoi Sakchainarong.  He rose through the ranks capturing several titles including one from Rajadomnern.

Apparently it all came crashing down when he lost his title to Singmanee Sor. Srisompong.  I think it’s the same Singmanee who was previously at Chuwattana and is currently at tiger in Phuket.   There’s a lot of controversy around the fight as many believe Saiyok threw the fight.

Promoters wouldn’t touch him and he was forced to leave the sport to make ends meet.  Prior to his comeback he was selling fruit for a living. (badass muaythai fruit)

He’s back on the warpath and looks as if he’s got something to prove. He’s won all of his 14 fights (9 KO) and is scheduled to fight Souwer and Petrosyan later in the year.

Nice, looks like he’s coming back with a bigger will to fight and to prove himself…

    Kick ass.

Hope the best for him. He shows an aggressive style at times. He’s got a hard road ahead, especially if he’s fighting Souwer and Petrosyan.

That’s a sad story, but it’s great seeing him back in the action.
Watching him fighting against Souwer and Petro would be awesome, but I doubt this will happen, especially fighting both of these guys.

    Anyway, Saiyok’s training:

I hope he does well in K-1. I can totally see the Japanese promoters milking the whole ‘disgraced warrior making a comeback’ thing. He might get himself quite the following that way.

I can see his style in K-1 being a bit like Kyshenko’s, though I feel that he might need some time to ‘acclimatize’ to the physicality of fighters like Kyshenko and Souwer. He’s shown a lot of improvement from his fight in SLAMM 5 to 6, so hopefully he’ll keep growing and be a top dog if he does move to K-1. Good luck to Saiyok.
