Return of the Emperor

April 24, 2008 by nopstar

I try to cover to all the major Nak Muay’s on MyMuayThai, I honestly don’t know how I’ve managed to neglect one of the biggest names of our sport for so long. Namsaknoi aka “the Emperor” Yutthakarnkamtorn.

It appears that he’s getting back into ring, in the next few months. The fight is going down in Malaysia, sometime in June against Rudolf Durica. For those of you who don’t know who Namsaknoi is he’s a former Kiatsingnoi, Por.Pramuk, and Ingram gym fighter. I think he was most recently with the Chorenrit Camp in on Koh Phangan.   Throughout his carreer he’s amassed  half a dozen Lumpini titles.  He was the former 115, and 122 lbs Lumpini Champ and held the 135 lbs. title for about 6 years (’00-’06). In addition to Lumpini he’s earned a WMC 115 lbs belt, the Ford Ranger 8 Man Tournament belt, and a couple of Fighter of the year awards.

I think he sticks out in my mind for his Ram Muay.  Personally I think he has the most beautiful Ram Muay of any Nak Muay.

I want to say he was a trainer on The Contender Asia, I thought I caught a glimpse of him on one of the episodes. Maybe one of the Contenders could confirm that for us?

I think he should be in his mid thirties by now…but nonetheless his pimp hand is strong. If anyone knows what he’s been up to these past few years, please fill us in. I came across this vid of him talking about coming out back out. Is anyone else surprised his English is so good?

On a side note, can one of you guys from FnF check to see if Neungsiam as ever fought Namsaknoi?  I think at 135 they had to have fought each other a couple of times.  Tong Po or RockinTaco can you check with him?

His ram muay is really elaborate. It was beautifully synchronized. I especially liked the foot wagging when he was kneeling. He has good balance and elegant movements. I think I would agree with Nopstar here about his ram muay being one of the, if not, the best.

I’ll ask neungsiam, but I actually doubt it. 135? that is waay too big for neungsiam. Also, he is one of the fighters in Thailand that sports the traditional Muslim garb. Another thing that’s pretty cool besides his English, is his hair is very 80s mullet like- short on top and a bit long in the back!

Can’t wait for his return! mid 30s? I remember him fighting in KOMA in 2002 (??).

Thanx a million for that Nopstar. Can’t wait to see him fight. Him, Buakaw and Chok Dee made a nice tri at Por Pramuk.

    Can’t wait to see this.

But seriously, why is that everyone that has a video camera thinks it’s a great idea to shoot straight into the light? Can someone please set an example and put up a tripod and keep the light behind themselves?

I trained with Namsaknoi last year in May when I was travelling around Thailand. I had no idea who he was at the time. He was an awsome trainer and it was my best training experience while I was there if not ever. He was retired and was just training and reffing fights. He was an excellent trainer. I forget the actual Camp name but it was just outside Thong Sala on Ko Phangan. Thanks for shedding some light on him.

I am a relative MT noob, and I think this guy seems to be an ideal fighter to look up to. Very simple, very technical. His Ram Muay shows his beautiful balance and coordination. Someone somewhere talked about how effortless he looks during his fights. It looks like he’s just training, but actually beating the crap out of his opponents.

Is it 6 7 or 8 Lumpinee titels he´s won? I have one of his fights with Saenchai, think he beat Saenchai twice. And You Gotta be good to beat him even thoug he was a bit heavier. But damn he looks good when he FIGHTS. I respect the tradition of Ram Muays, but Im all about the Fighting, not saying all you guys arent, by my attention span is somewhat fleeting and I must admitt that I watch max 50 sec of it and then fastforward, but reading all you guys praise of Namsaknois Ram Muay is making check it out so here I go. Havent seen many of his fights but he is definetley Skilled, and his Record of titles says ALOT.

Hmm He does look like he has A Lot of Balance when he does it, and very flexible. You can see his physique is Good.

I hope we can get some good footage of his return to the ring. He’s one of my all time favs. Not just for his ram muay. His technique, skill, and fight strategy=awesome.
