I was stunned to hear that Dutch Kickboxing Legend Ramon Dekkers passed away yesterday. According to the reports, he collapsed while on his bicycle. Ramon Dekkers was a true legend. He was one of the first westerners to compete at the highest levels in Thailand and win. Dekkers fought and beat some of the best Thai nak muay during our sports “Golden Era”

He was a superstar in Thailand, Dekkers was also the first foreign nak muay to be awarded the coveted fighter of the year title. During his career he amassed a record of (186 W -33 L – 2D) with 95 victories by KO. His ringname was the turbine from hell… fitting name. He spent most of his time running his own gym in Breda Holland, training notable fighters such as Nieky Holzken, Semmy Shilt et al.
I had the good fortune to interview him via skype a couple of years ago You can find more Ramon Dekkers articles here.
