This fight was between a Lumpini champion and a top ranked Rajadomnern nak muay. This fight took place on the 7th of march at the Lumpini Champion Krekrai show. This fight was essentially to see who would claim the coveted Sport Writers “Muay Thai Fighter of the Year” award.
Petchboonchu FA Group (red) is the current 122lbs Lumpini Stadium champion and Jomthong Chuwattana is currently ranked at the top of Rajadomnern Stadium. I thought he was the current champion, but I could be wrong. It’s clear Petchboonchu makes his living in the clinch. I can see why he’s the current Lumpini Champ, he makes it look easy. Towards the end you can tell Jomthong, had just had it, throwing desparation punches and eating lots of teeps to the face!
Many thanks to MuayThaifocus.com for the use of the pic and NakMuayMx for the upload.

there is just no muaythai out side of thailand. I mean this was pleasure to watch, I can barely watch Fights with non-thai fighters. first you could see blue was going to dominate outside with a classic style then red put the clinch on him, Blue almost came back with that throw followed by knees at the end of the 3rd round, but by the 4th it was clear that red was dominating with the clinch.

Maybe I am just a dumb farang who doesn’t know any better, but seriously saying there is no MT outside of Thailand is pretty insulting. How do you account for people like Dekkers or JWP, or even Kozo Takeda.

Good fight, thanks for the post.
Hey Nop, is there an old post here about how MT fights are scored? If not, a future post on the topic would be great for me and the other muay thai newcomers. For your consideration….

Dany Bill, Ramon Dekkerys, Soren, Kozo, Sato, Diafat, Corbett, Villaume, Alex Gong, JWP, Madigan, Liam Harrison, Petrosyan, Rob Kaman, Toshio Fujiwara, Crooke……but I guess you’re right…there isn’t or never has been any MT outside of Thailand. Those names I mentioned haven’t done anything for the sport of Muay Thai abroad. None of those guys has ever fought under Thai rules….none of those guys has ever fought a Thai….none of those guys has ever beat a Thai. Fuck them!
Anyway…..Thai are the best in Muay Thai….but saying there’s simply no MT outside of Thailand is purely disrespectful and insulting to the Farangs I have mentioned.
I apologize for the sarcasm.

Before we all lose our minds… I think I get what sitsutam is saying. It takes two… this fight was classic muaythai, I think we’re in agreement there. The pace, cadence, counters the whole show. Yes there are lots of Non-Thai’s who are incredible nak muay’s but don’t fight like this.
Take Dekker’s effing legend, but his style wasn’t a typical “Thai Style” monster hands..,
I think this fight was very typical of a Thai fight, lots of clinch work and a marathon. You need two people to play this game. The fighting style in Thailand is different… Outside of Thailand you you don’t really see a feeling out round. In the west everyone is looking to bang from the get go.
I think we just get used to seeing other western fighters fighting with each other.
I feel like Thai fighters have a much longer term view, it’s just differences in mentality. It’s like when a fighter has clearly won, they’ll walk around the final round to save each other from any injuries. In the west it’s never say die right? It’s all out until the bell rings.
I guess what I’m saying is that all these subtle differences when added up make for an entirely different style of fight. I don’t think I’m articulating this very well… time for bed.

If that’s what sitsutam was trying to say then I see what he is saying but somewhat disagree. Yeah pretty much only in Thai fights will you see with the traditional feel out first round. But the final round where the guy who clearly won the fight thus far is basically treading water til the end of the fight isn’t just a Thai thing. In pro boxing this happens a lot. In fact in this fight Jomthong is definitely not concedeing the fight in the last round since he swinging for the fences.

I think it’s wrong to say that there’s no muay thai outside of thailand, but I do think that the best muay thai is in thailand

I agree with Grime and Djmattyd….Nopstar, I’m hardly a troublemaker….but when someone makes a statement like “there is just no muaythai out side of thailand. ” and doesn’t back it up with anything…then to me it means exactly wut it says…”there is just NO muaythai out side of thailand.”
The best Muay Thai is from Thailand but Muay Thai is no longer exclusive to Thailand. However I will say this, Pure Muay Thai will always remain in the heart of Thailand (where plenty of farangs train).
NOp, You articulated your view quite vividly to me and I know exactly what you were saying. (you should be a lawyer…..hehehe)

To add to what Nop is saying (I think) outside of Thailand not too many people fight multiple times in one month too. What would be the point in risking injury when you’ve already won and have another fight scheduled the same month?
March 27, 2009 at 6:28 am
Stack ur absolutely right…..Nop, I agree with everything you stated…I just believe that (as Stack mentioned so eloquently in a seperate post) When you state yourself in a literal sense, you have to be prepared to be heard and understood in a literal way. I just think Sitsutam was being literal or else I’m quite sure he would have explained himself.
March 27, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Pretty much that’s it Spyda. I will say one thing I think Sitsutam is trying to emphasize and that’s that the level of competition in Thailand is obviously much deeper and better…well for the most part I’d have to agree.

lol…..I can’t argue with that.I don’t think the rest of the world will ever be able to catch up to what they thais can do….and how could they…..Thais fight as a way to put food on their family’s table.
