Pass Me the Takraw Ball

One of the funniest things I’ve seen this year… if any of you have ever spent time in Thailand you’d probably seen takraw being played in an empty lot or field. It’s like volleyball played except played with your feet.

during my stay in thailand i watched some guys playing takraw in a trash filled busted up lot with a sagging ripped up net…these guys were UNREAL. reminded me of that shaolin soccer movie but…well…yeah.

I have seen them playing in a park next to the palace in BKK. It look`s so easy when they do it- but I tryed it myself- it`s really difficult to make a game out of it with timing and the right feeling for this hard ball- it`s not like hagisag or football(soccer) ;-)
I don`t know that they have a league for takraw
One of the best memories I have is playing takraw on a beach in Phi Phi with a good friend from the US and a bunch of thai’s. Super fun.
Sepak Takraw is really popular in Southeast Asia. Thailand has traditionally been #1 but Malaysia and Singapore are also really good. Almost all nak muays in Thailand play.
Fun fact, Zig Zach of Contender Asia played competitively for Singapore when he was young.
A note on the clip.. if you do not know much about Southeast Asia or SEA culture, you might not get how funny the clip is… the player acting like he is the shit and the Hanuman reference to playing with monkeys in the mural at Wat Pra Keaw.. that shit is hilarious.
