What’s up fellas.
I’m back… just got my internet hooked up and I’m good to go. It was good to get back to Bangkok. I had hoped to get out to some fights but in the end I just ended up kicking it with my dad.
I’m happy to see that we’ve been getting a steady stream of Contender Asia clips. I apologize for all the tools that’ve been coming on and posting spoilers. Seriously you’re not welcome here. I’d would have got on them sooner, but I wasn’t on the site all that much.
I think I’m going to start giving assign some of you moderation tasks, especially when I’m out of town.
One of the fights I would have got to if I had known about it was this one, in Suphan Buri, just slightly north of Bangkok.
I was able to pull this off the tv, it’s the fight between Orono Wor. Petchboon, and Alex Cobra. A little factoid but Orono is actually from Suphan Buri, and has got the skills to pay the bills.
The next day at training I spoke with Bernung Sakhomsin about the fight. He showed me how to execute the last elbow technique Orono threw… the idea is that you want to fake a teep, as your opponent anticipates a teep they will step back and lean slightly forward. At that point you lunge forward with a straight elbow.
Anyway I’ve got the next installment of the Contender Asian coming up and some other good stuff.
I’m going to be exploring some Muay Thai Camps in London this week. It should be interesting. I’m headed to Jackapong Muay Thai this week, I’ll keep you posted.

I like this guy’s Muay thai. Not too much his singing. I can see how this guy beat both Buakaw and Yodsanklai twice. go Orono.

Was that Cosmo standing next to Cobra when they sang their country’s anthem?

Elbow attack master!
February 3, 2008 at 6:37 pm
That was rad. I got my stock update while I got to see Orono jack some dude up with elbows.
The first knockdown set up was pretty similar to the final, actually. He looked like he was going to step in for a round kick, just took that extra little step and WHACK!

Wow I don’t know how that guy got up from the first huge elbow, much less the second.

Beautiful technique! Was it just me or was the KO call kind of early? Sir Cobra got up pretty quick and refused to stop…maybe it’s for the best – he was pretty much in over his head on that day.
PS- Is ‘Cobra’ his name for real? Should be a MT G.I. Joe!
PPS – anyone know where I can see a Orono v. Buakaw or Orono v. Yod clip?

geeekspeek,……..i was going to say that too but i was going to watch the clip again just to check first….why didn’t he get an 8 count for the second elbow? he may have looked fucked for the first five or six counts but he was up pretty sharpish after that…….
February 4, 2008 at 7:07 am
I don’t think it even made it to a five or six count; it seemed to have gotten called a little prematurely. But, that being said, that final elbow was brilliant and pure instinct. You could see it on Orono’s face as he was going in and saw the opening in Cobra’s guard. I imagine the ref was helping Cobra out so he didn’t end up with a dent in his skull the next time around.

It looked like the physician came in to check him out. Maybe he wasn’t in his right mind, even though his body was still ready to keep fighting.

I also think that second down should be counted. Also the first down was far more solid, the second one wasn’t really on the spot. Maybe the judge’s call was still ok, cause Orono became too dangerous.

Do you know when Orono fought Yod and Buakaw? This should be couple years ago, when both fighters were pretty young. It would be interesting to see match at this time.
Nop, thanks for the fight.

Anyone know anything about Cobra? He looked pretty solid up until Orono turned up the heat. Would also like to see Orono v. Buakaw or Yod.
February 4, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Nice very NICE…I Like the Elbows…That just shows you Why lol
February 4, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Cobra covered up his face, grimacing. To a thai ref, that’s a sign that you no longer want to continue. Plus, The guy got KD twice, very quickly into the first round so he seemed to be out of his league…

Sood Yoooooood!! I heard about Orono a while ago but his fights are scarce online. Somebody posted that Orono beat Buakaw and Yod, if you know the video link post it please! salaam…
