Shout out to my boys back in the Bay!  I wanted to write a quick post to congratulate my friend and former trainer Neungsiam Samphusri for his unanimous decision win against Shinchiro Ohno.

fought last weekend in Southern California.  The other fights on the ticket were Kaensak Soh vs. Fabio Pinca,  Hector Pena vs. Kongnapa.

Tong Po reports:
“Kungnapa won against a very tough Hector Pena (Hector took a lot of left high kicks to the arms)  Kaensak loses unanimously- Fabio Pinca …too damn tough- strong and proficient!  Kaensak had nothing that for him!”

A very rare right kick

Anyway I know Neungsiam had to change up his fighting style a bit for this fight.  In the US, judges don’t always adhere to strict Muay Thai judging.  In the end a fighter who is constantly pushing the action is almost always favored.  I wasn’t at Neungsiam last fight, but I heard he was doing a lot of countering.  Despite clean counters and superior Muay Thai he lost a close decision.   Mark who was is always involved in Neungsiams conditioning said; Neungsiam was going to have to change his fighting style to appeal more to western judges and fans.

Focus.

I hope somebody out there has footage? Rockintaco? Anyway these pics make me home sick. Many thanks to Doreen aka blackwidow for sharing these great pics with us.

Bunkerd Faphimai, Jongsanan Fairtex, Neungsiam Samphusri, & Mark Mian

Big Congrats to Neungsiam , Bunkerd, Mark and the fight & fitness crew.  Miss you guys.

  1. Yes, the event was a great event for Muay Thai. One thing though, was that a lot of the Thai’s were pretty damn old- Kongnapa is 40 (or over), Kaensak is about 40, Neungsiam is not really old, but compared to current champs-ancient! Sorry Samart! Hector Pena is old too- not sure how old, but the guy has been in there with some pretty big names- Dekkers, Coban, Danny Steele. For some reason Hector wore full on boxing trunks- with a very long cut. He pretty much only had strong punches for Kungnapa, but did surprise everyone in the audience (although not Kungnapa) with a spinning back kick.
Neungsiam was too good for his old opponent- 40 year old Shinchiro Ohno. Neungsiam’s kicks were very good, especially the foot jab- pretty much landing at will. His hands were also very good, when he did throw punches. Kaensak never got anything going on his French opponent and was a bit disappointing to watch considering all the hype behind the fight. All in all a great event. We all partied like drunk Irishmen into the night- damn that Casino is ghetto!! Ice cubes in everything, including shots!

  2. It was a fun night, you can easily see the difference between the way the thai’s fight (technique, style, pace) and the way the falang fight.

I saw Neungsiam’s fight, it was pretty entertaining. Kongnapa’s fight was awesome though! He was handling his opponent for the first two rounds, but seemed to tire out for the final three. The dude he fought has a Mexican boxer who almost fought exclusively with hands (kinda like Virgil Kalakoda). That was a bloody fight and it was awesome seeing the two styles clash.

My girlfriend and I were too tired to stay for the Kaensak fight, but the night as a whole was really fun and I hope to see more fights at the casinos.

Oh, I heard Malaiapet was there and I walked around to look for him but I couldn’t find him. Apparently he was getting his booze on that night!

  3. man jongsanan is my fav nak muay. dude is the epitome of tough. dont know why but i look up to that guy and ive never met him. either way the event looked great. wish they had that here in south florida.

  4. found him!

    null

  5. Yeah, Malaipet and Bunkerd partied like they usually do- with gallons of alcohol. Jongsanan and I bought each other our favorite- Black Label on the rocks! A fun night overall. We all went back up to Bunkerd/Neungsiam’s hotel room and partied some more.

  6. It was a fun night! But I couldn’t keep up with them. We (Tim, Rocky too!)passed out at Neungsiam’s bed while all these people were in the room.

overall, Neungsiam did good but I expected more elbows.

  7. Thanks again for the pics Blackwidow! Do you know anyone who might have taped the fight?

  8. ask Rockintako- maybe…
