Naruepol vs Petrosyan fight clip
November 11, 2008 by nopstar
Sup Muay Thai peeps…
Thanks for all of your kind words… anyway back on topic. So let’s start off with the Giorgio and Naruepol… many thanks to Gusnark for passing this along. Also many thanks to yamabushigym for taking the time to upload and share with us.
First of all, where is this? Clearly this isn’t Italy is it? This is about the quietest Muay Thai crowd I’ve ever heard… I thought the Italians would be boisterous.
It looks to be K-1 rules… I said in my previous post that if these two were going to meet under K-1 rules it wasn’t going to be trouble for Naruepol. Petrosyan, is fast, it seemed to me that he dictated the pace of this fight, it seem liked Naruepol was never allowed to get comfortable.
He would drop some bombs on Naruepol, Naruepol would nod but was never able to answer. I’m not sure what Naruepol was waiting for, but he never really seemed to turn it on. He was content to counter punch, but wasn’t that effective.
So how do you guys think? The outcome was a decision in favor of Petrosyan. I agree with the decision, I just didn’t feel that Naruepol was putting it together. I’m not sure why they didn’t fight MT rules as Petrosyan is a Nak Muay. I’m sure they worried that it was going to turn into a clinch war and make it less entertaining for the audience. I hope that wasn’t the case.
Anyway I think Petrosyan is talented… I’d love to see him in the 2nd season of the Contender, I think he would be one of the likely finalists.

Naruepol seemed stumped and out of his element, but petrosyan is a beast. Every fight i’ve seen him he just seems to out class everyone. He’s a threat. I really liked what i saw from him. Naruepol did seem content countering and constantly backing up. In k-1 rules you have to constantly push the pace. Naruepol really needs to work on his hands and not get in an exchange. When you counter you have to have good footwork and quick combinations and on the move. Good counter fighters stay out of the brawl and pick their shots intelligently. He just didn’t look good in the exchanges which makes me think he’s a terrible counter fighter and maybe should have pushed the pace.
I personally think this fight can be describe one way, “bullshit”. When fighting a guy like Naruepol that is well-known for his knees in K-1 against a good boxer is like putting a good boxer in a fight without punches allowed. I know you all will argue with me about how K-1 is this and that but come on guys, Petrosyan is a nak muay and should step up to the plate and fight real Muay Thai (since Muay Thai is MUCH harder than k-1) and then the outcomes of the fight might’ve (in my opinion, would be) different.
I think the fight was baise and one sided. Since when is it allowed to throw people and do some judo moves? In my opinion, Naruepol should’ve won the fight by Muay Thai scoring (kicks) but I just feel that this entire fight was based on what the Europeans like and not how rules need to be played.
BEFORE anyone starts badger me over this issue I would like to say that I am European so its not like a matter of racism or whatnot.
I… All due respect what you said reminds me of a lot of Sato haters who couldn’t STAND the fact that Buakaw got beaten that fight so started making a lot of excuses, instead of giving Sato ANY props and admitting their favorite lost..
To retort: throw people and do some judo moves:s I thought that a lot of nak muay’s throw their opponents that way..
Second of all if he wants to fight under that rules it’s his choice, he’s an adult isn’t he if you agree to fight under those rules you fight under those rules, and to the best that you can. Maybe his performance would have been a lot better had he been able to clinch but that DOESN’T even matter here, under K-1 rules he lost because Petrosyan is superior under K-1 rules and is the better fighter under those rules, Am I right or wrong?
Not meaning to disrespect you dude, but it’s just all too obvious that you can’t stand the fact that your boy lost, I see those kind of statements all the time like with buakaw vs sato, crocop vs overeem, tyson vs holyfield:p If petrosyan got outclassed I wouldn’t have a problem saying it, unlike you.
On another note I really think petrosyan is going to make some noise after new year: did you guys hear it he’s going to fight kyshenko somewhere in may..Should be interesting but I don’t think Kyshenko will beat him, I don’t think Kyshenko would have beaten souwer if souwer hadn’t been so inactive..
This fight was poor :/
Naruepol seemed to more sleepy than usual, and Petrosyan couldn’t clearly get to him, so it was 5 rounds of cat and mouse for me, slow to from start to end, not so beautiful as it could be
PS. If we’re on this – imo Kyshenko will beat Petrosyan easily
Not impressed by either. Petrosyan’s hands were really fast, but became pretty predictable, and weren’t well organized. Naruepol dodged and shelled the vast majority. I think Naruepol had a poor game plan… should have started out with lots of high kicks to take away petrosyan’s hand.
I wasn’t impressed with either. I turned on the fights, but actually decided to do my work instead. *zzz*
Under K-1 rules Naruepol doesn’t have a chance against good and aggressive boxers. The outcome of the fight was predictable. But I wonder why Naruepol agreed to fight under K-1 rules. Probably more money involved. Anyways I’m still disappointed over Naruepol’s performance coming against Petrosyan with no gameplan at all.
Petrosyan’s next confirmed fight is against Stevelmans on the 29th of November.
Petrosyan vs Souwer should occur on the 14th of March in Milan.
Also vs Kyshenko? Source?
Both are good and I don’t fight the fight lackluster.
LOL at the advice given to fighters better than anyone here ever will be.

Not as exciting a fight as I expected and would have loved to seen this under MT rules. But oh well.
They only other crowd I found to be quieter was that big card in Jamaica.
I agree with xamarceaux. Very lack luster performances. Besides any crowd compared to Thais seem quiet to me.
salaam…
I think Petrosyan could make a good showing in Max. He has a crowd pleasing style for Max.
Petrosyan stance seems iffy to me, looks like he switches between a pseudo-thai boxing stance and a boxing stance. too me it looks like possible weakness in his defense.
Eurosport fight club the commentator mentioned it a couple of times that it was confirmed:)
Kyshenko would win easily? what do you base that on? It isn’t because you havent fought a lot in Max that you haven’t faced a lot of top tier position
Against stevelmans: Don’t know who I would like to win most.. Stevelmans normally but on the other hand Petrosyan so that he can get into max..
“… I thought the Italians would be boisterous.”
I resent that nop. you, sir, are a racist.
so what if we italians talk like we can’t hear the volume of our own voices or feel the need to scream into eachothers faces from 2 feet away. contrary to popular belief – screaming IS the best way to make friends AND get your point across in an adult fashion!
LOL jake
I don’t want to get into arguments or convince anyone but I seem to have watched a different fight from everyone else :) I saw very good technique from both guys and an interesting fight. (I’m more into these tactical fights than Lima vs Holzken-type affairs…) Naruepol’s counters looked sharp to me; he sent Petrosyan flying across the ring with one well-timed middle and scored with many others (it’s K-1 but kicks do count!). He also caught Gevorg with head kicks. That’s not easy to time against a guy with reflexes and a great guard like Petrosyan.
Gevorg again impressed me with his speed, aggression and dangerous brand of Muay Thai. I was very happy with this fight even though Naruepol lost.
Wow… racist?? I wouldn’t go that far… but I am going to hold up to Jake’s point and say that screaming is the best way to get your point across. lol.
Back to stinolatino, you obviously like k-1 and don’t appreciate MT but please remember that this site is called “MYMUAYTHAI”. And I am not protecting “my boy”. Come on now, we are both adults let’s use appropriate naming for individuals and judge the fight as it was with the opportunity for each person to express their opinion.
And just for your information, MT does not allow to “throw people”… sweep (yes) throw (no). You are first supposed to get a warning and than have a point off (so please count up all those point that would’ve been deducted).
About taking a fight k-1 style, please remember (to all of you) that unlike European fighters, Thai fighters don’t really DECIDE who they will fight and who they wouldn’t fight, under what rules they would fight, under which they wouldn’t, etc. Its their camp (in this case, Fairtex).
I must agree with everyone else, the fight was boring and I seriously kept my eyes up in order to watch it. Hopefully there will be a more exciting rematch.
BTW: anyone notice that Gevorg has a bit of a mean streak in him? He refused to acknowledge Naruepol’s extended glove after the second low blow.
He also got pissed at Buakaw during their fight and based on what I’ve heard from people who have talked to him, he seems to really hate Buakaw and is burning for a rematch.
jake-
take it easy, don’t be so sensitive.
I don’t find anything offensive or even racist in that statement. And I believe I’m not the only one thinking this way.
colargol-
please say this is a bad joke about Giorgio, I can’t stand fighters who hate other fighters, and possibly think of themselves as the best fighters in the world.
Giorgio fans at the fight were stupid and anoying they were cheering for him at the wrong times, (1,53)
where the music and the rules to drown thoses fuckers out.
H
yeesh, it seems my sarcasm zipped over a few heads.
I don’t want to distort what I read so I’ll just post the quote from the guy who talked to Petrosyan (K-1Fans’ member ‘Onne1983′):
“Also we had a long talk with Georv Petrosyan and his trainer. They are nice guys too!
After today i really hope Georv wins the K-1max one day! (he said he will invite me over to italy when that happens for an exclusive interview. Smile ).
He said he was also hoping for a rematch against Buakaw because he doesn’t like him. If you guys saw the look on his face when he said this you would know how dead beat serious he is, and there was fire in his eyes when he talked about it.”
you couldnt hear the italian crowd cause they talk mostly with their hands.
LOL I can’t believe Petrosyan is like that… I am going to make a racial remark about this and I know you guys will start arguing this with me but if anyone lives in Southern California this is something that I’d expect from an Armenian guy. I have quite a few Armenian friends and they describe guys like that with a certain nickname (I forgot the actual nickname) and they themselves can’t stand that crap.
Jake-
hahaha yes I am! What I’ve found is that a lot of my snarky American comments get lost in translation…
petrosyan isnt that a armo name? he kinda seems like a prick.
lol @ se. hand talking, so true.
we have an armenian (at least i think he is…) kid at the gym – in his first smoker fight he got kicked in the head – knocked outta the ring – got back in the ring and called the kid a pussy.
poor representation of our gym but hilarious event nonetheless.
Petrosyan is definitely an Armenian… I read up about him and found out he moved to Italy when he was 14… and yeah Jake I’ve seen that at SEVERAL smokers lol… with adults and children.
yeah, his original name was ‘Gevorg’, Italianised to ‘Giorgio’, and he speaks Italian pretty stilted. Still, he’s our boy! Vai Giorgio!
Well I dislike his anger towards Buakaw, and I would love to see a rematch both with Nauropol and Buakaw Full Thai rules. Better Fights and More Limbs to use!
