Nai Khanom Tom – National Muay Thai Day
March 17, 2009 by nopstar

Today is traditionally celebrated as National Muay Thai Day in Thailand, or Nai Khanom Tom Day. I’ve done a post explaining Nai Khanom Tom’s achievements last boxers day. If you’re new to Muay Thai be sure to read it.
Traditionally this is the day you would perform the Wai Kru, and you would pay respects to your teachers and your teachers, teachers.
I know some of you will attend events where they’ll hold very formal ceremonies thanking your Kru’s. I know at some camps this day will go by unnoticed and will be just another day at your gym.
I’ve mentioned this point in last year’s post, but I think it’s worth mentioning again. When you perform your Ram Muay, when you practice your kicks, when you wai your Krus’, trainers and training partners…you’re helping to carry forth a long tradition.
Today when you enter your camp or your gym, thank your teacher/trainer. Let your other camp or gym mates know. You don’t have to make a big deal of it, but I think it’s important for us to humble ourselves and to show our gratitude to those who teach us. Thank them for sharing their knowledge with you.

Definitely something worth looking into. Thai people are all about respect, and who better to pay respect to than your trainer on Nai Khanom Tom day!
Good work! I will be sure to do this!
Nice, I’ll be sure to do something for my Kru later. I love learning stuff like this. Thanks Nop.
By the way, is that supposed to him on the pic? Which guy is he?
Howboy-
That isn’t him, Nak Khanom Tom live around mid 1700′s this type of image didn’t come onto the scene until later.
I’ve enjoyed this site for a long time but picked Nai Khanom Tom Day to register :) Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Nop!
Wow! It’s been a year already? Well…..Nopstar, I would like to pay my respect to you also on this day as throughout the numerous months I have been a faithful pupil/member of this site I have learned so much from your articles that I consider you a teacher (as well as a friend).

Thanks for you kind words, but I’m no teacher. It’s good to have peers and friends along our journey. It’s good to have friends who challenge and inspire us. I want to thank you guys for being apart of MMT. I want to thank you for being apart of my journey.
