Musashi vs. Jerome Lebanner

September 29, 2009 by nopstar

I wasn’t aware this was going to be Musashi‘s last tournament.  The ending caught me a little off guard and needed to do a little research.

What’s interesting to me is the bow at the end of the fight.  I’ve covered this a few years back… but I used to think Lebanner was just a thug, but I saw a photo of him paying his respects to Ernesto Hoost in his farewell ceremony.  The image certainly changed my opinion of him.

The end of this fight is quite a sight.  You often see younger Thai NakMuay’s paying tribute to older fighters in the ring, but this is one of the first time’s I can recall seeing this type of tribute from a western fighter in K-1.

The act of bowing to each other, the respect/bushido that we pay each other is essential to our sport/art.  The act of bowing is to lay your ego aside, and acknowledge your gratitude to another.  Respect Lebanner!

Great fight. I never really paid much attention to Musashi’s fight career, but this fight totally won me over. His boxing skills quite solid, if only his kicks were stronger he would be much more complete. Regardless he fought like a warrior in the bout – his rage-filled punch-punch-kick combo at 13:06 could’ve finished the fight if only the kick was 10 cm higher and a little harder. Great clean and tactical fight from both veterans.

    Respect to both fighters.

Musashi has some great kicks, but for some reason he stuck to using his hands on his last fight. Masato who was an announcer for the event was pointing out that he’d like to see more kicks out of Musashi.

Great fight and great showing of respect by everyone.
Even though he took alot of beating in K-1 I was never bored.
    I’ll miss watching him fight.
