Muay Thai Minute – Bump Sweep

What up nak muay… today Coach Damon takes us through one of the more vicious sweeps in Muay Thai.  In my opinion the Nak Muay who makes it look oh so effortless is .  Check out this his HL clip, where he executes with ease.  The last sweep is probably one of the most brutal i’ve seen.  If you slow it down you can see he bumps him up quite high.

We’re calling this sweep a bump sweep for a lack of a better name.  As you’ll see from the video, you aren’t kicking out their plant leg, that’s another technique.  In this you use your thigh, to “bump” their cheek. At the same time you use your arm to sweep them back.  You need to do it with some speed in order to build up enough momentum to get any lift.

Word of caution… you can easily get hurt drill this, my elbow has a mild case of bursitis because of this exact drill.  In an ideal world you’d have gymnastic mats so you could go full tilt.  For training purposes your partner (the one who’s getting thrown) needs to hold on to your arm to ease the fall.

Happy training!

  2. I love sweep techniques but I hate using them during sparring. One wrong move and you can seriously injure someone. Scary though.
