Muay Thai Legends Fight Results

Published on August 18, 2008 with 9 Comments

Fight results this past weekend… So first things first, I should always bring my small video camera as a back up.  I bought a new camera, which was promptly spotted as I went through security.  So no footage… they’ll have official footage of the event at shoutfight.com

Anyway it was my first fight event in the UK, it was a pretty good turn out.  I’d have to say one of the aspects that was notably different to fights in the states was the fighters entrance music.  In the States the ring music is this projection of toughness.  I think MMA has done a lot to perpetuate this…

In the UK this doesn’t seem to be the case, I’m not sure what the deal is… it’s either music the fighter’s truly enjoy or it’s some sort of theme (“Johnny b good” for a fighter named John) It was pretty random,  A fighter even came out to sponge bob square pants!

Anyway, I wasn’t too impressed with the quality of fights leading up to the main event.  The one exception was a Greg from KO.  I’m not saying this because I train with him… but he displayed Muay Thai, not wild punches or kicks, but nice Muay Thai technique.

Keddle vs. Somrak
The most notable fight of the main events was Somrak vs. Kieran Keddle.  I’ve not seen Keddle fight before, but I’m sure he’s capable of much better.  This fight looked like most of the Somrak fights you’ve seen here and on youtube. It was a Somrak hl clip/clinic.  He was trying some old school Mae Muay Thai moves. “Alligator Whipping It’s Tail” (spinning kick) the double flying elbow attack and plenty of back elbows.

As you know Somrak can box… if dude doesn’t want to get hit, it’s going to be pretty hard to touch him.  There was a couple of times he just stood in front of Keddle point blank with his hands down.  I felt like Keddle just didn’t know what to make of him.  I thought Keddle was going to come out and unload on him, but it just never happened.  I think Keddle may have landed a dozen or so punches max.  It was clear that Keddle had watched some of Somrak’s fights, as the only thing he did that was remotely interesting that night was a signature Somrak move.   He caught one of Somrak’s kicks and dropped an elbow on his thigh; even Somrak gave him a smile and a nod.

vs. Steve Wakeling

What I’m about to say is going to get me into a lot of shit but oh well… I’m just not impressed with Diesel Lek at all.  His fight with Marco Pique was the first time I’d seen him fight, and I thought it was a fairly lackluster performance, but I thought maybe he was having an off night.  Last night was no different.

I know Diesel Lek has is the current Rajadomnern belt holder, but I don’t how or why he is. I think if he fought Lamsongkram he would get annihilated.  Wakeling who is considerably taller then Diesel Lek made it very difficult for him all night.

Diesel lek didn’t have a strategy of how to deal with Wakelings reach, and finally resorted to body punches in the later rounds.

Hat’s off to Wakeling for the win.

Dave didn’t fight, you might not have heard this, but he’s going to be a daddy. He’s going to chill for a bit.

    Lorkotekote-
No way he would have tried out for the olympics, he’s old as dirt. I overhead some guys who had been hanging out with him this week. Apparently he smokes like a chimney, he’s just taking it easy…

  7. Damn, that sucks about Diesel Lek, but Wakeling is very good too- really uses that reach advantage.

  8. shoutfighttv? With maste A, Dave jackson and Sandy Holt!!!Oh man that is funny stuff.

But I know the promoter for the legends show and he’s a real good guy. He loves Muay Thai with his soul truly. I hate to see his show sharing space with those ‘masters’.

As far as Diesellek’s performance. I don’t think he’s ever fought someone as big as Wakeling. Easy night for Steve imo.
