Muay Thai in Olympics?
March 14, 2007 by nopstar
Any of you guys know anything about this? Ernesto sent me a link to a memo regarding the World Muay Thai Council in talks with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). From the sounds of it, it feels like they are in the initial exploratory phase. This would be really interesting, I’m sure it would be structured and organized identically to the IFMA.
I think I read somewhere that one of the requirements for inclusion to the games, is that the sport cannot have a name of a country in it. I’m sure they’ll call it Muay or something along those lines.
It would be interesting to ponder who might coach the US Team. If I remember correctly Fairtex had a very active role in screening fighters for the amateur US Team. I’m sure they would have some involvement if not control of the entire team.
The memo also discusses a possibility of holding a World Martial Art Games. Either way I think it would be excellent visibilty for Muay Thai.

I’ve been hearing about this for years, back when Alex Gong ran Fairtex. It would be great if it came to fruition.
Wow, that would bring more popularity to the sport. I’m sure Fairtex or Master Toddy would have a hand in it somehow.
I had better start preparing…hahaha!
Is there anyway we can see that memo?
“Yeah. Did you get that memo?”

Hey are there any updates on this topic and when will the decision be made on whether MT will be in the next games?
