Muay Thai in America

March 18, 2010 by nopstar

More MuayThai on the horizon… it looks like our SoCal MMT contingent are going to be on a steady diet of quality MuayThai for the next few months.

I’ve heard that things at Alterwarrior have kicked up a notch as they’re getting Nuengsiam Samphusri ready for battle.  For those of you who are new to MMT, Neungsiam is my former trainer and good friend. He’s a former Lumpini Stadium and Mitsubishi 8 man tournament champion.  He’s going up against Nat McIntyre a talented NakMuay from Minnesota.

I remember posting a documentary on Nat back in the day, but it appears all online vids have been removed or deleted.  It was called “Dream Chasers” and it chronicles Nat’s experience as he travels to train and fight in Thailand. It looks like it’s available on torrent sites, so keep an eye out.

The main event is also a MMT friend, Malaipetch vs. Christoph Pruvost.  The event is on April 3rd at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica California.  You can buy tix from ticketmaster. I know a lot of NorCal MMT peeps will be coming down to show Neungsiam some love.

In addition to the fights, my understanding is that these guys are also looking to put together a reality show. You can find out more info at www.MuayThaiInAmerica.com It’s called “In Search of America’s Muay Thai Team”

I’m down; I’ll support anything that will help raise the profile of MuayThai in America.  So who’s going?

Glad to see you are putting this up Nop. Ajarn Chais commitment in spreading muay thai is getting mor recognition. the documentury should be first class, alot of it was shot at the Pacific Northwest Muay thai camp in Oregon last year.

I wish i could make it out the fights in CA but i wont be able to, Nat and Nuengsiam should be a good one, ive sparred with both of them and they are both great fighters.

Oh yeah…thats me doing Kicks on the thai pads with Ajarn Rex in the trailer!!!

I helped set up the new ring for this fight yesterday, got a gnarly sunburn but the ring is pretty dope, really big though. Needless to say, I’ll be checking out this fight as well. Should be fun. Two great fights in less than 2 months, I’m having a good start to my summer! Haha

Man, wish I could see Nuengsiam back in action. I hope he presses the pace.. I hate seeing thais get bad decisions by counter fighting a stalking foreigner. Too bad I will probably be in Chiang Mai for Songkran ;-)

Mark also mentioned on his FB, the fight between Miriam and Angie Parr should be pretty good.

Nop, Miriam is old skool Clementina Fairtex and was at FnF a bit a while back. She has good hands and solid overall kicks and knees. She was on Toddy’s Fightgirls TV show if anyone remembers that.
