Muay Thai Gear Review: Rival Boxing Gear

March 20, 2007 by nopstar

I personally haven’t had a chance to try these yet, but a few people at my gym have started using them and swear by them. These gloves and headgear by Rival Boxing look and feel legit.

Initially the lacing “grooves” seem like a gimmick but are actually well thought out. When tightened they spread out the support of the laces. The downside is that they’re really only useful if you are planning on keeping your gloves for a while (sparring). If your required to frequently don and remove your gloves between rounds, it isn’t going to be ideal.

The gloves look and feel really good. They appear to be well and constructed, I’ll be sure to do a long term update to see how they are holding up after a few months of use. At $118 plus shipping I’m not going to rush out and pick up a pair.

They offer several options, however I would opt for the Ultra Bag Gloves for training.

Any of you own a pair?

I’ve seen them before but never wore them. They seem a bit “gimmicky” and way too expensive. But, who knows?
I just ordered a pair of 14 ounce Windys for $40 cheaper than that.

They may be better functioning, but not justifiable price wise.

I kinda like the design..it makes it look unique…and u won’t have to worry about anyone conveniently mistaking your gloves for theirs. That’s the reason why I love my Twins (Tattoo) gloves. I myself am not a big fan of laces as the gloves comes on and off during training…it takes too long with laces.

I have the Ultra Bag Gloves, didn’t really like them… I now have Twins special gloves, way better in my opinion.

    Stiman-

Thanks for the heads up… what in particular didn’t you like with the “Ultras” . Was it the mesh or construction?

Well, its really hard to say, its just a “feel” thing for me, they feel soft and big… The sparring gloves look way better, but I haven’t tried them. I really don’t mean to knock them, its just that I noticed a difference when I switched to the Twins gloves.

    Stiman-

Knock all you want… It’s not like they’ve sent me any loot or free gear.

If anyone would like to send me free gear, I’ll gladly test and whore them out for you.
