When it comes to Muay Thai around the world Canada is not hurting at all in the talent pool. in 2012, this pool of muay thai fighters from across Canada took on some of the United States, Thailand, and Europe’s finest and came out on top. Here are six fighters from Canada to keep your eye on in 2013.

Simon Marcus: Simon Marcus had a dominate 2012 and continues to remain undefeated in his professional career. Matt Embree: Otherwise known as “The Technician,” Matt Embree trains out of Siam No.1 along with Simon Marcus under Ajahn Suchart. Matt Embree had three victories in 2012 against Coke Chunhawat, Nathan Smandych, and Nils Widlund. His only defeat in 2012 was to Lerdsila Chumpairtour “Mr. Lighting” at Muay Thai World Stand Off. Many fans have expressed an interest in Matt Embree fighting Kevin Ross. Hopefully that fight will happen at the next Lion Fight Event in Las Vegas, NV.

Joeseph Valtellini: Otherwise known as “Bazooka Joe,” Valtellini had a strong 2012 which led him to a contract with the Glory Kickboxing Promotion. In October of last year, Valtellini fought a much more experienced opponent in Gregory Choplin in the co-main event at “Lion Fight Muay Thai 7.” Joseph Valtellini didn’t win the fight but gave a very impressive performance against a high caliber fighter in Choplin.

Joseph Valtellini vs. Mehdi Baghdad

Valtellini’s last fight was against Medhi Baghdad at “Muay Thai in America” on December 1st, 2012 in Playa Del Rey, CA. One of, if not the best fight of the night. Valtellini got cut so bad in the fight it looked like he got hit with an axe. There was so much blood pouring out it looked like a horror movie. Regardless of all the blood Valtellini pressed forward knowing he was ahead on points and ended up winning by decision. Look out for Valtellini on Glory Kickboxing Promotions in 2013.

Troy Sheridan: Troy Sheridan made his professional debut last year and ended 2012 with 5 wins and 1 loss. It’s unknown at this time whether Troy Sheridan will fight in Muay Thai or MMA in 2013. Troy Sheridan is a teammate of Joeseph Valtellini’s at “Team Ultimate” and is definitely a fighter to watch out for.

Gabriel Varga: Gabriel beat a very tough opponent in Lerdsila Chumpairtour “Mr. Lighting” at the K-1 Rising Show on September 8th, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA. Gabriel’s next fight is unknown at this time but rest assured 2013 will be a big year for him when the right opportunity presents itself. As Justin Greskiewicz once said “He has the work rate that makes the energizer bunny look like a slob.”

Shane Campbell: Shane Campbell has been around for a while now and has had both a successful Muay Thai and MMA career thus far. Shane is scheduled to compete in the Finals of the Calgary based promotion “Journey Fight Series” against Sean “Shotgun” Mckinnon in March of this year. He beat Nate Chambers in the quarter finals and Troy Sheridan in the semi finals of the “Journey Fight Series” tournament. His next fight is at “Lion Fight 8” against Frenchman Remy Bonnel January 25th, 2013 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
