More Carnage

December 21st, 2007 · 28 Comments

Last time I was writing about Corbett he was fresh off his victory over Kaoklai. Nathan Carnage Corbett who’s the reining WMC Cruiserweight Champion isn’t having any luck finding opponents who can last more then a few rounds with him.

His latest fight was a few weeks ago against European WMC Champion Recai Celik. As you see from the vid, it appears to be quite the mismatch. In an interview after the fight Carnage expressed disappointment that the fight ended so soon.

“Celik should not have even been there …I don’t know why they (the WMC) brought him” he added that he doesn’t really have a say on who he’ll face. “I can only fight who they put in against me.

It’s good to see the Australians still allow elbows, after a few cracks on the head you could tell Celik realized he was in the deep end. There’s a point after taking a nice crack to the head I think he checks to see if he’s bleeding, it almost looks as if he’s looking to his corner to throw in the damn towel. That would totally be me, looking at my corner to throw in the towel, only to have them laughing at me.

My knowledge of 86 kg fighters is totally nonexistent, is there somebody Carnage should be fighting? Is he going to have to move up in weight?

personally i don’t see anything unique about this guy

Tyrone Spong. Apparently he hasn’t been looking that hard. Spong has fought full Thai rules. Don’t believe the hype. There are fights to be made if you want to leave your little sphere of influence.

I like Carnage but the hype is at this point out of control. Most of the people hyping him know basically nothing about Muay Thai outside of Australia. He is good but ‘having a hard time getting a fight’ is beyond laughably false. Carnage’s team had no problem fighting undersized Magnum Sakai but Tyrone Spong isn’t even an after thought?

How the effe did I forget Tyrone? I’m ashamed of myself, I should have my member lopped off and buried in the sand…

You guys Aussies? So what’s his deal?

  • 4 Ernesto // Dec 21, 2007 at 11:29 am

Nop: You should die the ‘honorable’ death (Samurai style) for that over-sight. I’ll hold the samurai sword high above your head any day baby. lol

  • 5 Ernesto // Dec 21, 2007 at 11:31 am

And yes, I can picture Bunkerd cracking up in the corner pointing at you.

  • 6 Tong Po // Dec 21, 2007 at 11:43 am

Nop- you mean you still have your member?

Spong should be a good fight for him-I would not advise him moving up until he cleans up the division.

He didn’t seem to throw hardley any knees, or make an attempt at the clinch at all, does anyone have a good idea why?

  • 8 fight geek // Dec 21, 2007 at 1:35 pm

Carnage is great. Love his elbows. But I agree with Stack—he doesn’t have to look that hard to find a good fight.

That being said, Celik looked like he wanted to go home and suck on his mother’s nipple. He had no business being in that ring.

    Nopstar—get a Thai girlfriend :)

  • 9 ironmanyawyan // Dec 21, 2007 at 5:35 pm

He’s not that impressive to me but he’s good…

  • 10 PaulPP // Dec 21, 2007 at 10:57 pm

Ehhh Carnage hmmm… his oppponent looks like chocolate cake :D, too easy.

  • 11 fourchamberz // Dec 21, 2007 at 11:13 pm

ironmanyawyan, not impressed? He is the best in his weight class until he fights Spong. Oh well, judging by your user name yawyawn which is a muay thai knock off and it sucks, your opinion shouldnt mean much.

For such a badass, he seems kind of gay to me. Does he frost his hair?

  • 13 Alexander // Dec 22, 2007 at 1:07 pm

looks like a good fighter, but i dont see the reason for the hype really. maybe they’re not used to fighters who constantly move forward and show aggression.. *shrugs*

  • 14 Stack // Dec 23, 2007 at 2:05 am

Carnage is a good fighter. Definitely a solid and very talented fighter.

Now for those of you more concerned about fashion: The non-commital mohawk is no gayer than Chuck Lidell’s, who is to be frank amateurish in his efforts at striking. Sure Lidell has some sweet bad ass tats that appeal to the new to MMA and even newer to MMA tough guy kiddies. That’s as bad ass as calling yourself ‘Slayer’ for example and being older than 16.

With that out of the way Carnage is great at what he does but is he the best? Not in his weight class and not in Muay Thai in my opinion.

As a generalization most Aussie Thaiboxers are not all that high in skill level. Extremely tough, extremely determined but not extremely talented outside of some obvious notables.

Jesus Christ, Stack. Defensive much? I was just poking a little fun at his highlights on his perfectly coifed ‘do. And can I help it of OTHER people call me Slayer due to my penchant for heavy metal?? Cut me some slack, Stack!!! ;)

If you’re looking for a more serious review, I’ll say this: he seems good, but he’s definitely not a freak. He does a lot of things really well, but definitely has some flaws and lacks that flow of the true MT greats. He seems a little stiff and upright, and walks straight in with his chin held relatively high. His guard also seems to be held a little wide, so against a fighter with longer reach and good clean straight punches, it would appear he’d be somewhat vulnerable. Of course, none of this really matters in this fight because he is noticeably taller and heavier than Celik, and it doesn’t appear Celik was even aware that he could use elbows and/or he didn’t know how to defend them.

Don’t get me wrong. He’s definitely good and doesn’t seem to have any fear, which always makes for an entertaining fight, but I think he’s open to be picked apart if there was ever a Thai savant over 190 pounds.

And with that said, Merry Christmas fuckos! ;)

i heard he has huge power…
his punches look very mechanical doesn’t flow so well but i would like to see him and spong.
Nathan is a good fighter you guys don’t give him enough credit.

  • 17 Stack // Dec 23, 2007 at 4:40 pm

I was poking a little fun at you interest in males and your complete ignorance. Your serious review doesn’t mean much to me. I’m just making a point which still stand ‘Slayer’. Because liking mullet rockj and never fighting is really ‘tuff’.

  • 18 Tong Po // Dec 23, 2007 at 11:58 pm

I don’t like his faux hawk, its soo unbelievably K-1 Max, bitches.

  • 20 mj // Dec 24, 2007 at 12:26 am

no clinching? what a miss match

  • 21 Ernesto // Dec 24, 2007 at 8:22 am

I would say Chuck’s stand up would be very amateurish if he were fighting Muay Thai but since it usually works for him against most opponents - who cares as long as he wins. Although you’ve seen what a man with “good” hands can do (i.e. Rampage). Just imagine if he actually tried to refine his hands.

Dumb cunts? Wow… Merry X-Mas buddy.. hahaha

  • 22 Ernesto // Dec 24, 2007 at 8:26 am

I was just going to get a faux hawk for you Pu Tang.

  • 23 Tong Po // Dec 24, 2007 at 1:46 pm

JWP as always is all class! Happy New Year JWP!!!

  • 26 nopstar // Dec 27, 2007 at 9:48 pm

What up JWP? You getting psyched? In less then a month your face is going to be all over Asia, that’s got to be cool.

  • 27 Gusnark // Dec 28, 2007 at 3:06 am

“I like dumb cunts- but the smart ones are just as swell.” Couldn’t agree more.

“What up JWP? You getting psyched?”
    Aren’t we all?

Must say that opponent was weak, yes a champion but a very bad day for him, Yeah put him in the ring with Tyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyrooone, and he will get more rounds and maybe even a beat down, I wonder how Carnage will perform under pressure.
