More bats?
June 22, 2009 by nopstar

I’m not sure what’s up but it seems like every time I turn around more people be fighting bats! Here’s a clip of Melchor Menor vs. a bat.
Melchor seems to be the go to guys everytime they do a psudeo science fight thing. Last time we saw him clinching up a crash test dummy.

mmm…… Video says: “Muay Thai masters like Mel spend years building up their shins by kicking hard objects” and they show video of kicking a telephone pole. This video will probably encourage new legions of Muay Thai wannabees to start kicking hard objects and trees. Tree kicking legend lives on.
the funny thing is that no kids in thailand train by kicking trees any more. Actualy I doubt any one ever did.
i thought bat kicking was a karate parlor trick…in chicago there used to be a black belt who’d do it at kickboxing shows…
Measuring the force on the bag was interesting, but kicking though the bat was lame. I would like to see how hard Yodsanklai or Samkor kicks the bag.
Between the bat kicking craze and everyone doing jump knees I’d say stateside your average influence for people who want to do Muay Thai are kickboxer and OngBak. nothing says bad ass like a jump knee that misses your opponent by miles. Excuse me I have some tree kicking to do be back later.
i think all the calculations are interesting and what not but….the prajed and the wrapped hands? really? gotta do it up i suppose.
i’ve only seen 2 melchor fights in which he both lost, does anyone have any other menor footage?
jake,
good point about the wrapped hands…i think ad types think it makes one look tough/experienced…noticed how many fitness models wear them these days in ads, etc.
saw this yesterday before this post. melchor probably making a good payday on all these appearances! lol. i’m happy for him.
lol @ telephone pole(?) graphic. to be fair, like imuaythai.com said above, the narrator said “hard objects,” which is true about kicking pads and heavy bags. i hope nobody tries that at home, though. LOL.
Does anybody know Menor’s fight history? Is he from Thailand? The only footage I could find is his fight with Masato where he lost by TKO. I’m very curious about this guy.
The only reason they kicked trees in Thailand is that they didn’t have bags- usually due to financial reasons; and they kicked banana trees, which is not like kicking maple trees or telephone poles. The bags are hard as fuck there though.
Melchor was decent really. He has a win over Danny Steele way back win on of all things an MMA card in Hawaii. I think it was called SuperBrawl 12 or something. Believe it or not the at the time Danny and Melchor were on the card as the superfight main event to bring class to an MMA event. My how the tables have turned, eh?
At any rate the early round Melchor was doing his thing with some crisp combos and good movement. Eventually though Danny’s ridiculously hard kicks were catching up to Melchor and Danny was beginning to really give Melchor some problems. Suddenly Melchor came in and landed some really great elbows to the head and Danny was stopped due to cuts to the face. Pretty decent fight and really exciting. If I can find the tape I’ll rip and stick it on my channel but I literally have so much fight video I don’t know that I could find it easily. Very good fight though and worth seeing.
Oh should add Danny and Melchor’s fight was FTR even though it was the centerpiece of an MMA event. Jeez 1996 was a long time ago.
Oh also Melchor is pinoy and started with all people Steve Mazagatti as trainer. He moved on to Toddy and then did his own thing fairly quick. He even got Kit Cope started some what.
There’s some mutual dislike between Melchor and Fairtex. Both sides of which I can understand actually. Both sides have some amount of pride and some words were exchanged which caused the now current not-the-friend status they have.
In regards to this video. I am sure Melchor was chosen because he was adequately ethnic looking, can legitimately say he fought the best he could find at his weight and talks well. For anyone that doesn’t know any better breaking bats with kicks is super impressive too. And Melchor is never shy about letting you know how good he is.
Wow Stack…that’s a pretty damn good intro… Thanks!
No prob. Discussing Melchor always brings up ancient history got me thinking about that video again.
stack, what up with the avatar? is that one of those street gang monkeys from the south that’ll kick your ass and steal your wallet?
It’s a really fat, overfed ape. I think the photo was of the ape in mid groan from trying to pick itself up fresh from a gorging session of whatever the zoo was feeding it.
good insights, thx Stack
No Problem. I get all nostalgic about thinking about old school California Muay Thai. One day when I get motivated and stop being lazy I’ll put some old California stuff up for everyone to see. Menor definitely was an MT standout in the old Cali days. Fortunately he parted ways with Toddy fairly early on, wisely imo.
Uh oh Danny made the news in a not very falttering way….

Kickboxer guilty in air travel case
A federal jury found former world champion kickboxer Danny “Hard As” Steele guilty yesterday of molesting a female passenger aboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu last year.
Steele, 39, faces a maximum two-year prison term when he is sentenced in March. He has been in custody since September for violating the terms and conditions of his pretrial release. The victim testified that she was asleep in a seat next to Steele Dec. 2, 2007, and awoke twice to find him molesting her.
While Fight Science is quite entertaining, their calculations and measurements are all bullshit. In the Melchor clip they say he has the hardest ever measured kick on the show with 770lbs. Not bad… but Gina Carano’s kick measured at 800lbs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n38fLoH540Q
I really doubt her kick is faster and stronger than Melchors. Their calculations are bullshit.
Carano’s kicks might be heavier after a sit down at a Golden Corral buffet though.
Just kidding Ian I agree.
Ian23 on the old episode of fight science with punches and kicks the buff tae kwon do guy got 1570 lbs of force with his spinning back heel. Then they said Manors kick is even harder than that. Then Bas Ruttens kick was even a lot harder than that. So if theyre right Manors kicks have to have over 1600 lbs of force! How did it shrink to 717, and then Gina Carano beat him with 800? lol. Youre right, those measurements are bs. Or maybe Melchor Manor was just throwing lazy kicks in the new episode.
really powerful kicks…
wow Danny indulging in some sleep assault fetish..Niiiice. ..was he doing it with carano?=)..j/k
i seen that fool danny fight at hollywood park. he fucking sucks. now hes a molester? wtf. that fight science shit is for crackers…
someone tell danny thats not the proper way of getting into the mile high club
this is awesome hahaha
