As some of you might know I’ve been based out of London for the past 4 years.  As you can imagine all of London was a buzz with Olympic spirit, Cops being nice, English people talking to each other… it was very cool and all a bit surreal.

I was lucky enough to score some tickets (thanks ting tong)and managed to watch some boxing, along with some other events.

In my first night of the Olympics I got to watch Kaew Pongprayoon represent Thailand, in the preliminary rounds.  Thailand fielded 3 boxers and Kaew was the last one left.

Thailand get’s riled up when it comes to Olympic Boxing.  It was the sport in which Thailand earned it’s first gold medal, when Somluck brought it back in 1996.

Generally when you have this many people competing, you’re going to have some controversy, but is it me?  Boxing has to have the most issues?  I don’t have the facts in front of me but I would guess boxing must have the highest percentage of protested results.  The Satoshi Shimizu bout was particularly horrible.

This bout is with the Olympic Champion Zhou Shiming vs. Kaew Pongprayoon.

I’ve watched this through a couple of times… I’m finding it quite difficult to watch this impartially… don’t know.  What do you think?

  1. robbery for sure…. scoring was wrong imo, the chinaman was doing buffalo head dives into the thai, should of had more points taken away, and Kaew should not really of lost any points taken away in the last 30 seconds… correction, they dont lose points, the opponent is given points,,,

  2. I think the most well known controversial boxing match at the olympics is the Roy Jones Jr. one:
