Melvin Manhoef vs. Remy Bonjasky

September 28, 2009 by nopstar

The heavyweights were in full effect yesterday for the K1 GP final 16.  I’ll be posting some of the fights from evening, I appear to be having some issues with my megavideo, but will get the clips up as soon as I’ve got the kinks worked out.  Many thanks to lordsinned of the k-1 fans forum for posting these and of course fight2live.net for recording them for us.

I had a chance this weekend to finally finish watching the Badr Hari documentary.  I don’t know where I was last year, but I completely unaware that Badr had lost the plot during last years final.  I don’t even think I covered last years Final.  Anyway… for those of you who don’t know the back story you’ll get a glimpse of it in this intro of this fight.  Basically Badr goes nuts and attacks Remy when he’s on the ground, he attempts to stomp Remy’s head as the referee is pushing him away.  If you watch the documentary, he doesn’t really make all that much contact, but Remy does his best impression of a footballer and milks it for what it’s worth.

Manhoef and Badr are apart of the same camp hence the bad blood…  Anyway here’s the fight.

in my opinion bonjasky wasn’t that convincing if you compare this fight with his last one against manhoef.
he can be happy that he took the win, hopefully he does better in his next fights.

I get frustrated when I watch Bojanski fight. Aside from his flying knees he really doesn’t take advantage of the physical attributes that he’s gifted with. I mean, what is he doing throwing low kicks at a short and stocky opponent like Manhoef (who has short tree trunk legs) in a 3-round fight. He should’ve been body or head hunting with those kicks. Also, his boxing is so weak (especially that left hook/slap he always does to set up his right low kick), a continuous long jab in Manhoef’s face to maintain distance while setting up power kicks would work nice but unfortunately Bojanski (and his trainers) continue to neglect his boxing potential. I mean with those long arms, its such a waste not to throw straight hard punches down the middle…
