Masato vs. Kohi ’97

July 28, 2008 by nopstar

Well it’s looks like I’m going to take me sometime before Google stops thinking I’m bad for you.  Anyway we’ve got to push on.  If your running IE or Safari you should be able to view the content with out too many issues.

Many thanks to welovekamatari for the upload.  He sent me an email a couple of weeks ago… thanks for sharing.  This was similar to the Vintage JWP footage I put up months ago. It’s amazing how much  far you can come in 11 years.  I guess if you think about it that’s almost an entire career for most.  Think of what you were doing 11 years ago?  Feels like another life, actually it was…

Wow… can you guess who the Nak Muay is?  In this clip Masato is 17 and in is second professional fight. It’s amazing how bad his movement is… quite the flailer.  He won his first fight by a first round KO.  Kohi’s movement looks pretty good.  It’s amazing though, in the 11 years since this fight it doesn’t seem like his hands have improved at all?

Man those fan’s know how to watch a fight… I’ve seen other clips from this particular venue… those people get buckwild in that place.  Reminds me of all the fights I’ve been to in jank indian casinos in California.

Does anyone know where Takeda was in ’97?  Seeing that Kozo won a Radjadomnern belt in ’01 he would have whooped up on these two in a big way. Based on how Masato was dealing (or not dealing) with the clinch, it’s clear Kohi booked his ticket to Thailand way before Masato.  I guess Masato would have his revenge…

lol, reminds me of the first time I got into the clinch while sparring…. so disconcerting. Now it’s my safety fall back if I need to get some control of the way things are going.

LMAO, toughest here is definitely the judge, check at 8:45.
Man, Masato is stiff with his legs, he always was. Look at his low kick at 5:00, ouch. But man, he had a great heart in this fight.

Love the hair on Masato- very boyish. Masato did train in Thailand a few years later, and beat Kohi. Kohi did not really improve much- or so it seems since this fight.

Yeah it’s crazy to see how different Masato was back then. Movement-wise and also in how limited his offensive repertoire was. I’ve never seen the full fight so thanks for that guys!

BTW: check out the ancient fight of Johmod’s I posted up on Dailymotion (he was just 19). He was like a little badass muay thai robot :)

    Great clip Colargol!
I never thought that Winnetou was into MT, maybe because Pongsavang taught him some lesson. :)
Oh, and I loved the big applause for the “round announcer”.
Great to see retro MT fights.
