Martial Arts in Commercials

December 19th, 2006 · 3 Comments

When I was a about 10 I was really into Karate, I was completely obsessed. No Lie I think I watched “Revenge of The Ninja” over 30 times. Not Ninja 3 “The Domination” though…that was a huge piece of crap. Anyway, my Dad was a Physician and went to a lot of medical conferences. I used to tag along whenever I could. One of my favorite things to do when I got to a new city was to look up “Martial Arts” in the Yellow Pages. It was so fascinating to me… “Damn he’s got a 10th degree black belt!” I never did find an ad for a Ninjitsu school though. I’m sure if I did I would have kicked and screamed until one of my parent took me. One could argue I’m still scouring… the world for interesting Martial Arts Schools. So along that vain, I’m attaching footage of Martial Arts commercials I’ve come across.

Here are my nominations for the worst:

“You Have to be Alert at All Times”

I love the big dude doing his “Kung Fu” Deer Boxing punches at his Master. I think he’s actually punching about 2 1/2 feet over his head. The guy does scare the hell out of me though…These guys have a butt load of videos online, I’d include more but I’m afraid of these guys hunting me down.

“We all Need an Edge”

What I love about this clip, is that the red neck that comes out of the house never drops his drink! I can’t lie, I would have probably ordered this if I had access to my mom’s credit card. That spinning kick was mad devastating.

“Black Belt in a Box”

I don’t actually know if this is real or a complete piss take. Holy Shit it is real. Can someone please, please buy this for me for Christmas? I promise I will study all 38 aspects of his system. Dang, I should have included a link to this in my Muay Thai Holiday gift guide. I’ve always wanted to learn how to “Master the Nunchuku” and learn “Back Yard Ju-Jitsu”

“It’s Time to Get Extreme Bitches!”

[youtube NOljH4GjdAM ]

Once again if I was 12 this would be the first place I would have signed up. The guy does a flip! I’ve been training Muay Thai close to 9 years now, and I still don’t know how to do a flip or break a board with my face. I need to get my priorities straight.

Here are my nominations for the best:

OK so these aren’t commercials for schools. In my opinion your not going no find one. If you do, let me know and I’ll post it. These next two are just commercial with Muay Thai and Martial Arts in them. If you’ve spent more then 10 minutes on Youtube you’ve probably already seen these. Otherwise enjoy.

I got my start with muay thai here a few years ago. As of yet, I’ve never found a better gym for the money, and the actual amount of personal attention and direction you get made it a great experience. Sadly (though I guess that’s relative), over the last couple years they’ve gotten more exposure (mostly via owner KruMark being a trainer for The Ultimate Fighter), and now I can’t afford it, but regardless, without a doubt the best muay thai school I’ve ever seen in the states.

[...] this out… For those of you who’ve watched any Thai tv, you’ve probably seen some funny ass commercials. Thai commercials are some of the most humorous and off beat commercials I’ve ever come [...]
