Local Legends

Looking at the pics of Coke training with Jongsanan, I wonder if NakMuay’s in the San Francisco Bay Area can appreciate how much MuayThai talent there is just kicking it in the Bay.
It always amazed me how many people I’ve trained with who didn’t have a clue what Lumpini Stadium was. Then you have the other contingent who truly believe that the fighters at their gym are “World Champions” just because their belt says so.
Anyway, didn’t mean to get off on a tangent… I came across some vids the other day from Bryan, he’s a self professed MuayThai nerd and has the video collection to prove it.
I just wanted to share a old fight of Jongsanan with you. This would have been in the early 90’s probably 1991, as Noom (jongsanan’s Thai nickname) is 18 in this fight.
I always feel like I’ve got a headache when I watch Noom scap… he such a head on fighter… I can’t imagine how many shots he’s taken to his dome throughout his career.
I’m thinking about doing a couple of posts on Legendary Nak Muay’s and where they are today. I know most of them are living in the States… I might ask you guys for some help. If you train with any of these legends, drop me a line at nopstar at my muay thai dot com.
If you lucky enough to bump into Noom in the Bay, Wai him and buy him a beer for me.

yep, I post here, but mostly I just read the stories. This is one of my favorite muaythai places on the whole inter-web.
And Thanks, Nopstar for the link…..I post those old fights because I want them to be seen, and I think they should be seen, I think it’s good stuff, and I hope others enjoy it as well.
Great link, I love seeing these fights. Thank you very much for posting them Bryan. :)
Bryan-
I thought it might be you! Great collection and thanks for sharing.
Num is so freaking ill. All those guys are: coke, neungsiam, bunkerd. enn. its scary crazy
rob cox had a picture of diesel noi at lumpini a while back…would like to know what he’s up to….in that pic he looked like he bet on the wrong fighter :)
heyy whos talking about kru Rex?! haha I go to mtkg in van nuys too. crazy. I love kru Rex. and girl? thai girl? Probably april.
i <3 the shit out of kru rex, but hes at doblers muay thai in fontana. i dont know what happened. if u go to van nuys MT than im sure u havent seen him there lately.
I’ve been fortunate enought to share many-a-round of beers with Pee Num. He’s been a great mentor and friend of mine.
Of course, he was a Legandary Nak Muay, that’s been obvious to us all over the years, but to all of those who haven’t had the pleasure of training with him, let me tell you, his coaching skills are incredible as well!
He’s the only trainer I’ve had who knows and accepts exactly what I’m capable of, what I’m good at, what I’m not capable of, and what I’m not good at and will train me accordingly. Now, those who train w/ Num, you all know that this will include alot of verbal abuse (lol) but like Coke said in his interview, this treatment comes from a trainer who cares about his fighters.
I’ve learned and grown tremendously from his training for fighting and to be a better teacher as well.
Oh yeah i know all that happened. i visit him every week and get buffalo wings with him haha. Its all for the better. The van nuys gym moved as well.
tell me what happened cus i have no clue. lol
Nice one Bryan,
like there’s no school like the old school and OneSonchai’s the headmaster.
Volumes. 1 to 4 are my favorite.

While Pee Num yelled at KhanomRay, I had an Iron Chef Challenge/Throwdown with him. Other than muay thai, and ladies, Num`s other passion is food. And that man can cook..and drink scotch!!!!!!!!!!
Ray and I were hammered and Num was still passing shots..drink from the right..or was it the left?
I don’t remember much from that night.
I am lucky enough to have moved to the SF a few years back. I have trained with Bunkard and Jongsanaan Fairtex at Fight and Fitness for a year before switching to Fairtex (I moved and now live a block from Fairtex).
At Fairtex I now train with Jongsanaan and Ganyo Fairtex.
I have to say that all four of these guys are the nicest, funniest guys you will ever meet.
It is a true honor to have trained with all four of them.
