Legendary

November 13, 2008 by nopstar

I came across this yesterday, not sure what this is all about.  Not sure if it’s supposed to be a documentary or if it falls under the dubious docu-drama genre…

Not sure how they plan on distributing this… anyone out there want to send me a copy? I appears the film is a lead up to his fight and post fight with Yod in Jamaica.

My previous trainer Bunkerd Faphimai and Malaipetch are pretty tight, sort of the Thai muay thai mafia in California.

I’ve met him in on several occasions but I actually don’t know that much about his life.  I’m curious if the movie will touch upon his early life and career in Thailand.

Anybody on MMT currently training with him?

I hope it shows his whole career and not that only fight cause “legendary” is not an adjective that came to my mind after watching that fight…

This is my first comment but I have been reading this blog for the past 6 months. Nopstar, you do an excellent job and I look forward to your posts every weekday. Thank you for keeping me up to date with the Muay Thai community.
I have been training with Malaipetch for 2 weeks now. I moved from the Bay area where I was training with Bunkerd at Fight and Fitness to Rancho Cucamonga where his gym is located. I don’t know him that well but I was speaking with him regarding his fight with Yodsaenklai. He mentioned that “they” wanted him to fight Yodsaenklai again in January, but I don’t have any other info.

I’ve met Malaipetch a couple of times at some smokers, that guy is cool he’s easy to talk too, friendly and he doesn’t got his head up his ass

I got really hook up by the teaser, hope I can see a copy of it soon.

And to agree with MTDoc, yes Nopstar you do a hell of a job here. I had some personal and work stuff to do and did not train for like 2 weeks and it was just about when the site activity was a bit low.

Now that you are back I am all psyched up to go back to the gym.

  6. MTDoc on November 13th, 2008 11:29 pm

He lives in Upland which is next to Rancho Cucamonga. I agree with the above comments – he is a really nice guy, very easy to talk to. Speaking of which, I asked him about the Nareupol fight under K1 rules. He felt that K1 was a big disadvantage for Nak Muay but perhaps it had something to do with the money.

I train at MTA and I know that the maker of this doc reads your blog so I’d imagine he would get in contact with you soon.

    I fought down in Fresno last year and Malaipetch was there. I was talking to him in Thai, asking him where the party was at and where we were going. He explained very very slowly for me;

“You are in America, you should speak English!”

    MTDoc

What exactly the differences between Muay Thai and K1 rules?

    This documentary sounds really interesting.

  13. Frank on November 14th, 2008 3:48 pm

dudamir – K1 rules don’t allow elbows and the clinch (grabbing on to your opponent, which really limits the kneeing), whereas Muay Thai does. A true K1 fight is just 3 rounds, and Muay Thai has 5.

    christ, malaipetch looks huge.

i’m really interested in his MMA fights.

  15. C on November 14th, 2008 6:06 pm

Jake – agreed..i think he and Yod are one of the few Thai fighters that look really muscular. I’m wondering whether they lift weights. I know most Thais don’t.

Hilarious guy to hang out and drink with. Brings back good memories of Neungsiam’s fight in Fresno vs Raul Llopis… Hennessey and bags full of Jack in the Box tacos. GOOD TIMES..

    Malaipet loves that tongue soup.

  19. yodtimklai on November 15th, 2008 2:15 pm

Seems like a great little documentary. Hope someone can find it soon. Anyone know where I could find some of Malaipet’s MMA fights? I’d love to see how he did.

  20. ShadyEskimo on November 15th, 2008 3:42 pm

Ok so most of you guys have meet him or seen him, All i know is I would like to see this Documentary, and hope its informative and seriouss, and not over the top, drama bullshit. The fight wasnt Legendary, but It was an interesting fight.

  21. MTDoc on November 15th, 2008 4:19 pm

I spoke with him yesterday and he said that the documentary is not yet out, but hopefully soon. If I find out when and how, I will post it. As for his MMA fights, try youtube or google. His last two were against David “Tarzan” Douglas and Thomas Denny. The problem with his MMA fights is that nobody wants to stand up and fight him, they all take him down where he doesn’t have the experience.

  22. dudamir on November 15th, 2008 5:40 pm

I saw his MMA fights in youtube. He lost the two I saw for the same reason: He doesn’t know how to defend himself on the ground.

A lot of MMA figthers who originally come from Muay Thai, like Anderson Silva, learn two things: Avoid takedowns and keep his guard on the ground until the refereee stop the fight.

He really needs to improve this to be able to win in a MMA fight.

I was at the American Film Market last week and saw some amazing scenes from this movie, Earlier years of Malaipet. Malaipet & Yod training, Yod & Malaipet hanging out, Malaipet being stitched up in the hospital. There is no narration on this doc and no interviews. I asked the producer how he got this footage and he said all the footage is real and he has been filming for eight years and has hundred of hours of footage plus he said he’s Malaipet’s cornerman and thats why he got to film this. Anyone out there know if this is true?

I am really anxious to see this film. I grabbed a flyer from the film market and read the synopsis. I will post the synopsis, but I will have to retype it when I get back from my travels.

  24. I on November 17th, 2008 8:23 am

    mtfan,

Yeah, its definitely true. I know the guy that made the movie and he knows Malaipet very closely and he has LOTS and LOTS of footage that he is editing… but soon he will comment on the movie etc when he is done with it

I just started training at Malaipets gym a little over a month ago. He said they followed him around 7 years to make this movie. He showed us the trailer for this after a class.

  26. cyex on July 16th, 2009 6:18 am

I train at MTA, and David, the guy that is always around with malaipet, said it’s coming out in the 30th of this month.
