The Rants and Ramblings of a Muay Thai Fan

Later Days

January 22nd, 2008 · 15 Comments

So today I bid San Francisco a very fond farewell. It’s strange to leave a place you love. I’ve lived all over but I’ve always had a sense that those places weren’t home, I’ve never really felt rooted in those places.

It was different with SF… I’ve always anticipated that this was going to be my home. I guess In the end you’ve just got to go with the flow. The more you cling the more it hurts, so I won’t cling.

I’ve been here for 10 years and I’ve formed a lot of meaningful relationships. I will miss training at my current camp. Besides home and the office, I can’t think of a place I spend more time. It’s meant so much to be these past few years.

I want to formally acknowledge and thank my trainer Bunkerd Faphimai for his friendship, tutelage and heart. Bunkerd is probably the warmest person you will ever meet. He’s had a pretty incredible life. He told me when he was a boy he worked as a field hand at the neighboring farm. As payment for his rice season’s work his family would receive a sack of rice. By 11 he began fighting… towards the later half of his career and 300+ fights later he achieved his goals by winning both Lumpini and Rajadomnern Stadium Titles

I’ll miss him a great deal. He has been a great teacher, trainer and friend. I know Bunkerd won’t be able to read this… so if one of the FNF crew feels motivated, you can let him know how I feel.

I’m off to the Kok for a few days, I’ll be training at Ingram in the mornings, if anyone feels like watching me vomit. I hope to head out to Sanchai’s camp as well… I’m going to have sporadic Internet at best, so please be patient if I’m slow to get content up.

Good luck in your new job, hope everything works out for you.
Will be nice to have the man responsible for http://www.mymuaythai.com (best muay thai site on the net by far) living over here in UK.
I’m sure you will like it here just be prepared for the weather its no way near as warm as SF.

I’ve been following this website every day for half year. I would rate it as my favorite muay thai website. I live in the mid-west where there are even fewer true muay thai fans. (most of my friends just follow the MMA bandwagon) But here on this website i feel a sense of connection. It just feels good to know that there are still so many true fans in the States. Thank you so much for your work and best of luck with your new job in London.

Good luck with the move. I’ll echo the above comments that this is my favorite MT website. I’ll be looking forward to you getting settled and back in the groove here.

    Thanks!

Christine and I will miss you guys at the gym; but, you have such an amazing opportunity to live/work abroad — I’m glad you didn’t pass it up.

    Good luck!
