Lamsongkram vs. Shane Campbell
August 28, 2008 by nopstar
]Next Thursday, for those of you out in West Coast if you feel like driving into the middle of nowhere, you can watch MyMuayThai friend Lamsongkram Chuwattana mix it up with Shane “Shaolin” Campbell. Campbell represents the Iron Tiger Muay Thai Camp in Canada. I’m not certain of his record but I know he’s got wins over Alain Sylvestre and Trevor Smandych.

I notice Campbell’s got some bling of his own, unfortunately the only the one that matters is in Lamsongkram’s right hand.
Here is Shanes’ HL clip.
I wish him luck… I’m sure he’s seen most of Chai’s Hl’s and knows he’s going to get clinched and elbowed a lot.
Anyone planning on going?

No disrespect to Campbell at all – in fact, he’s got some balls to even step in the ring with Lomsongkram. But the khun thai is miles ahead of him. Its not even close. Look at how he dismantled Farid Villaume in Jamaica. And Farid is very talented nak muay, especially for falang.
I never truly understood the clinch game until I trained in meung thai. I’m not saying I know how to clinch, but there is SOOOO much more than the basic “grab a guy’s head with both hands” technique. There even tons of ways to defend the clinch, ways to escape, sweeps, etc. I just don’t think the falang can handle the khun thai’s clinch game whatsoever, and that (along with the elbows and kicks) is what is going to be his downfall.
Shane did beat Trev not too long ago. From what I hear there was a shadey knockdown given, and if it had been a full 5, Trev would have pulled through. But whatever, I think Lamsongkram will destroy him. Love watching that guy fight!
holy FAC! shane is in my OPINION going to get owned so bad. that’s like pitting a bad ass jack russell to a full bred mayday gamedog. his highlight reel is…. i hope he gets much more training.
i’m almost positive shane is going to try to overwhelm lam if he can (at all) get some momentum going. they have some cardio at iron tiger but one or two of lam’s well placed knees and that gets thrown right out the window. lam has too clean of technique for shane.
i am morbidly curious to see if a freak right hand or right kick catches lam upstairs. while the farang is way outta his league here, his tempo is not of a thai and that might work for shane…
for half a round.
Shane is pretty young, and the HL was from a year ago…so I would assume he has improved considerably. He recently defeated another Canadian champion by knockout, Adam Higson.
But Lamsongkram is Lamsongkram; and I’m pretty sure that even if he has to go through a hard, fast paced round, he will outsmart Shane in the end. I don’t predict it will be by knockout, but an overwhelming decision.
Being Canadian myself, I still hope Shane represents well.
oh, here’s Shane and Trevor from last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64nHPdJGDHY
It was really close in my opinion. Though I think the knockdown was legit, even if Trev got up quickly and ready to go.
I fought on the same card that Shane defeated Trevor and I was very impressed with his skills. Also he’s a pretty cool nak muay, good additude.
I do believe he’s got his hands full w/ Lamsongkram though. Gonna be a tough fight for him. This guy’s a beast in the clinch! Plus he’s one of the top names in the game right now so win or lose, congrats to Shane for the opportunity to fight him!
It’s full MT rules, so Lamsongkram will win.
I’m curious though for Campbell’s strategy.
Thank’s for the vid, thaifan. Even though Trev is my Kru, I’m still not sure I’d count that as a knockdown. If it was a punch, sure… but a flying knee with all your body weight behind it, is easy to knock somebody over without hurting them. It’s almost like scoring a knockdown off a teep.
Also Shane looks like a pretty big dude; he must be to fight Lamsongkram; I’m pretty sure Trev walks around at fight weight.
Hey, sorry to high jack this blog, but I am moving to Nagoya, JP in 2 weeks. I asked Mai before but not response. Does anyone know of any muay thai gyms in Nagoya??? Thanks and sorry again for highjacking the blog
Yeah, Shane looks pretty big…especially against Trevor and in that HL video. I’ve never seen him in person, but I would think he’s probably naturally tall and lanky, rather than a more compact/buff build. Kind of like Lamsongkram, actually. Now that you mention it, I wonder how they compare in size…
As for the knockdown…I dunno. Even with the “push”, a flying knee is still a big strike, and different from a teep. I wouldn’t blame the ref for calling that.
But anyways, I agree. Trevor took that one KD easy and then came back to make it a really close one.
I didn’t feel it was really a decisive win for Shane. I would be really interested to see them in a rematch. I think it would have been cooler to have Shane vs Trevor 2, before fighting Lamsongkram; but I digress.
shane is a joke
Nice Elbow Work
For those of you who had interest in this card, I found out that Shane pulled out of the fight (I’m not sure why exactly). Instead, his team-mate Mukai fought in his place, and lossed to Lamsongkram by KO in the 2nd round.
Thanks Thaifan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
