This bout took place a couple of months ago, this is the footage from sstv.  Most of you already know the outcome… however this particular fight is important as it’s one of the few documented clips of Non-Thai fighters winning a prestigious stadium title.  For those of you who are new to MMT, there are only a handful of fighters who foreign Lumpini or Rajadomnern stadium champs.

For those of you who’ve trained at Sitmonchai in the past few months will recognise Damien’s opponent.  Kongfah is now a trainer at Sitmonchai and taking some fights internationally.

  1. I really wish they would finish the fight, instead of fooling around- even if a fighter knows he won. Imagine if he got caught at the end there.

  2. I dunno, I’ve always like the last half round as a cool off if it’s been a brutal fight, or a blow out. It’s kind of like “hey, good job you beat me, you deserve it, let’s not injure ourselves”

  3. congrats to diego sanchez

    • Holy shiiit he does look like a skinny more pleasant looking Diego Sanchez….war Damien “dirty Sanchez” alamos!!

      Mind=blown

  4. WHO actually decides when a Foreigner gets a chance at a Stadium Title??

    • manny66-

A lot of it has to do with the promoter… and matchmaking. His promoter is Kiatpetch promotions, which allowed him to get his shot in a fairly short time frame.

That being said he’s won 2 WPMF titles in lumpinee he’s fought and won at Omnoi and channel 7. And has won a couple fights at the Kings cup. His promoters have given him chances, and he’s been able to rise to the challenge.

  5. Yeah people think being a foreigner in Thailand will just be riddled with unfair decisions and bogus politics, but truth be told their road to a title shot is a lot easier than what a Thai has to go through.

  6. Dehhmeeyun Arrramoss…

  7. Damien is sometimes embarrassing to watch as he tries to behave like a Thai and toward the end of the 5th round, it’s a bit more cringeworthy as he tries to be courteous.

But overall, Damian did perform well. He was lucky in the early round as he got his break.

    • Not sure if it was cringe worthy as much as it was slightly annoying. Damien is still young enough to grow out of those overly respectful gestures in the middle of the fight. I heard the commentators mention the wai. Maybe nop could tell us what they said?

      • I always hated it when a guy who is clearly better is too apologetic about winning. It’s one thing to show respect after the fight or if you commited a foul, but it’s another thing to rub salt in the wound by trying to raise the hand of an opponent you clearly and convincingly won against DURING the fight. It’s funny how damien tried to coerce Kongfah into playing nice for the rest of the fight like it was no big deal to just give up a title, Kongfah wanted no part of that and tried his best to take Damien’s head off in the last couple minutes of the fight while alamos flopped around with his dance moves and almost got caught…gotta be more careful about being too nice, it’s a title fight not some random matchup.

      • The announcer says “oh look his teachers have taught him well… normally when a fighter wants to apologise they will acknowledge each other by touching gloves. Wai(ing) with both hands is dangerous… you opponent could throw a hook… by touching gloves you’ve acknowledged the winner”

Damien was trying to get Kongfah to acknowledge his defeat and as Tibun says play nice… and Konfah didn’t appear to be in a congradulatory/playing mood

  8. Well put.

  9. Check this video out of Damien

    He’s pretty good.

  10. I think it’s all a matter of some seeing a bottle half full vs half empty. You shouldn’t judge someone’s action as purposely “rubbing salt in the wound” when you really don’t know what someone’s motives are for doing what they are doing unless you are that someone. Some may in fact be condescending about it (raising the loser’s hand at the end of the fight or lifting him up) while others might genuinely want to acknowledge the other fighter for a great fight…thus saying that the losing fighter deserves just as much praise as he does.
Another thing is that I personally don’t see anything wrong with being polite during/after a bout. We sometimes get so caught up in the “MARTIAL” part of it that we sometimes forget about the “ART” part of it. We’re human beings, not savages

    • That’s exactly what i meant, Damien seems like a great guy and probably had 100% pure intentions with his gestures. But Kongfah may have taken it the wrong way and might have been slightly annoyed by too much praise, especially at an awkward time like that where he was trying to knock Damien’s head off, some guys are hard on themselves like that.

  11. Yeah, but he does it in the wrong time and this make the whole thing awkward.

Just look at the referee and his opponents and other people near the ring. It’s just awkward when he does that.

  12. I do agree that it was awkward…..but to call it disrespectful is something entirely different. All I’m saying is that it’s a possibility that Damien was being genuine with his gesture, I don’t think he was trying to “coerce” anyone. The fight was technically already won..Kongfah hit Damien with his best a few times during the 4 rounds and it didn’t result in KO so hoping for a one in the 5th was unlikely (however not impossible)…I think the gesture was a sign of respect, Thai fighters do it all the time but because a farang does it then it’s an issue.

    • he could be/probably was genuine, still very awkward. like a white dude saying ‘nigga’ over and over again.

he wasnt doing it right/properly. but these are not things you can really pick up easily even if taught….hes a foreigner so he does deserve some slack.

      • My thoughts exactly ( about the slack)…and I do agree on everything you said. He definitely didn’t do it properly, which made it look awkward. I’m sure he’ll eventually get the proper ethic…in the meantime I guess he’ll just have to settle for the TITLE BELT…..lol

    • You take my words too harshly man, english isn’t my first language, isn’t coerce the same thing as persuade or “get someone to agree with”??

Being asian (but of course not speaking for all asians) I would’ve been wounded if i lost at my national sport (and a title to boot) to a foreigner and then got praise in the middle of the fight from the guy i lost too, i would’ve taken it as a “pity gesture” (whether it was intended like that or not) and would’ve gotten really, really annoyed, just let me lose with dignity u know?? but that’s just me.

  13. He is definitely deserving of slack. Frenchies are’nt known for being very nice or respectful. He’ll get the hang of the sweet science of when to wai and when not to.

    • When i’ m watching a muay thai fight i don’ t expect fighters to be nice and polite (even thought I appreciate it a lot). And I think that Kongfah doesn’ t care that much about Alamos behaviour right now. And if he’ s deserving a slack, he did’ t got it. But he won the title. That’ s what matters as long as he didn’ t cheated.and stole it.
It seems like frenchies are not that much appreciated around here… I’ m french and i’ m nice and respectful… Is talking about when to wai or not more important and interesting than talking about how he won that fight? I don’ t think so.
Yet another french fighter in muay thai history.

      • Fabio pinca

        • Skarbowsky!

          • and Danny Bill! best foreign nak muay ever imo

  14. I agree with everyone here.

Moving on, Damien has set a bigger precedent (even there are foreigners before him have gained Lumpinee belt) for foreigners to come and beat all Thai Lumpinee champions. I think Lumpinee will no longer be only Thai champions in the near future……mark my words.

    • Maybe, but it depends pretty much on the weightclass.
In my opinion it is easier for a farang to get a title in the upper weightclasses than for example around 133lbs.

  15. Couldnt agree more about Danny Bill, the man had beautiful muay thai. Too bad he’s not even mentioned on MMT. It’s a shame that dutch kickboxers get preferrence over a legend in the game. No Skype in France?

    • Dany bill was one of a kind, timing was impeccable, technique was very Thai with a little bit more of “swagger”, like he was dancing in his fights…Maybe he didn’t get much attention because he was dark. Just saying, the world isn’t fair. I like Dany bill, good fighter A+++++

      • Before a flame war starts, my comments were not about MMT, because nop HAS made a few posts about Dany Bill, just not recently. I was just talking about Dany hasn’t had much exposure in general i.e. in the Muay Thai world.

        • We’ll put tibun. I didnt want to be the one to pull that card. I havent seen much if anything on danny bill on here. I guess i have to really dig into the archives. But if i wanna see steven segal….. Not so much.

  16. - Tibun…Apologies for taking you so literal.

    - Nakmeezy “Frenchies are’nt known for being very nice or respectful”…..Blasphemy!!!!!…..lol…All it took was one american to spread a rumor and now the whole world thinks we’re rude…..smh!!!

    - HKC La chose la plus importante est que malgres toutes les rumeures que les gens disent as propos de nous (les francais)…les factes c’est qu’on ait dans le top 5 des nations les plus fort aux Muay Thai.

    - Dany Bill will always be in my book the GREATEST Farang Muay Thai fighter in the world (After Jean Claude Van Damne because he beat Tong Po…and he beat that spanish looking thai fighter in “Bloodsport”…and he can break Bannana trees faster than Buakaw on ‘roids)

    • @spydaman: yes, d’ accord avec toi, aussi bien pour le top 5 que pour JCVD, Haha!
About this fight, I agree about some kind of tactlessness from alamos. But his fight was sharp and clean! So if he appears arrogant and too enthousiastic at the end of the fight I can excuse him because myself, as a “nakmuay” (big word!) I just can say: wow respect man…
I also appreciated and found funny to see the young cock trying to cease war and celebrate his victory while the old lion was like saying “be careful boy I’ m still fighting!”.
@Nop, I really appreciate to read posts and comments here. This is the best muay thai site I found with real muay thai lovers and “connaisseurs”. you’ re doing good good work!

      • You appreciate seeing young cocks? Wrong forum Mon ami.

      • Epic google translate fail. Lmao@ your appreciation of the young cock!!!
        Lmao to sleep!

    • When u training again? I need someone to clinch with.
      Pause (no frenchie)

  17. Wow, sorry Nakmeezy, could you please give me a link for the right forum then? Seems like I’ m disturbing you!
I need to find a site where I can learn some good english. And another one that teaches how and when to wai.
I’ ll manage to see cockfights this summer in cambodia.
    http://www.jansochor.com/photo-essay/cockfight.html

    • Dont mind me HKC i’m just messing with you. You’re english is good actually. I’m a pretty “cock”y guy, but i’m sure you can appreciate that. :)
Seriously though, I think you missed the whole ” is this thing on?!!” about the word cock. The word has a dual meaning, aside from a Rooster it’s used as a slang word for penis. Hence the comedic value in your post.

  18. This whole thing sounds like a COCK and bull story to me=).

You guys are cracking me up with the English slang education here

  19. Freaking Nakmeezy, always messing with somebody….lol. @ HKC, he was just kidding, so don’t take it personal.

  20. Don’ t worry guys, it’ s ok, I’ m cool!
    PEACE to you all.

  21. As we on the topic of lewd slang, apparently new french PM`s name has quite the meaning in Arabic slang=)..read: analogous to cock
